2008 JAGUAR X-TYPE
Jaguar introduced its 2008 model year X-Type that has received Jaguar’s signature look with a new bright mesh grille (same as the 2008 S-Type & XJ) and a simplified line-up which sees the ‘Classic’ and ‘Sport’ derivatives dropped, leaving 4-trim levels: ‘S’, ‘SE’, ‘Sport Premium’ and ‘Sovereign’. Moreover, Jaguar announced that two new colours will be available from September: Porcelain White which replaces White Onyx and a completely new colour, Blue Prism.

What is that -you were expecting something more than a mesh grille and a simplified line-up? Think of it this way; consider it a miracle that Jaguar is even trying to keep X-Type alive...

Isn't this the same old X-type that was based off of a 1998 ford mondeo? This car either needs a Complete re-design or a Coffin.

Well,

I've seen lots of speculation. I don't remember the source of it, but I do remember reading that even if they were to continue with its production, it would be removed from some primary markets, including the American markert

I don't recall Jaguar ever saying what they actually intend to do with it. I believe that at the moment, they are not sure. They most certianly will not be sacrificing the development of that which is true Jaguar [XJ: a Jag-U-ah] to the x-type [a Jag-wire] ;)

Americans just can't say Jag-u-ah, why do they say Jag-wire?

I honestly don't know. I have also heard it pronounced "Ja-Guar"

REnminds me of a Rob Report that made me laugh. When they did the review on the XK, the only thing listed under Cons was "Must learn to pronounce 'Jag-U-ah'"

Only ignorant people say "Jag-wire."

THEY MUST KILL THE X-TYPE.

You know what I think they should do with it, cdoke? I had actually read a story where there was a "Flubber" toy for kids, and it made the children who bought it sick/allergic, so it was recalled and stuck under a parking lot. Company legend has it that the flubber oozes through the cracks of the parking lot on hot days.

This is what they should do with X-Type remnants.

Ah tomae-to...it still sounds so funny to me, like yo-gert, (I say yog-urt, hard o).
Just to check, you all say OW-di, not or-di as I heard someone say?

It does not matter, but it sounds increasingly stupid. "Jag-wire."

Rupert, most people in the States do use a hard "o" in yogurt.

Ha ha, S4. I like that idea Bury it in cement, you know, something similar to the Chernobyl reactor. We could even appropriately call it "the sarcophagus" for the late kitty.

The one mispronounciation that actually is my pet peeve, is porsche. It is NOT PorSH' it it Porsh-uh [or portia if you are into latin]. I actually had someone try to argue with me about it, citing that it is German. Actually it is someone's last name, and it is pronounced Porsh-uh.

RupertRupert - 6/12/2007 6:11:56 PMView My AgentSpace

I say Porsch, Porsch-ah just sounds pretentious to me.

It may sound pretentious but that is the way in which it should be pronounced.

It may sound ignorant, but I'm not German. I don't say Munchen or Beh-Em-Veh or whatever, and in English, e's at the end of words are silent.
It's the same with other countries, why does everyone else call London Londres? For the same reason I don't call Paris Paree or Moscow Mockbah.
We change things, that's how language work, and when Porsche adverts still say Porsch, I'm gonna say Porsch.
Somebody German, please tell me, do you say Porsch-ah?

cdokecdoke - 6/12/2007 8:05:37 PMView My AgentSpace

The difference is that is not German it isn't a part of the language. München means "Monks", Paris is derived from the Gallic Parisii. Porsche however, is the last name of the founder- Ferdinand Porsche. In the western latin alphabet the last names of people are generally not changed with the language. In certain cases even, such as Cyrillic to Latin, the translation is simply phonetic.

..point being that the correct pronunciation is the one used by the family. They pronounce it as porsh-ah, and whether germans pronoune it correctly or not is ancillary.

I have a last name, the pronunciation of which even happenes to be perfectly correct english, and between 30-40% people pronounce it incorrectly. Those people are not right.

Mesh grille is cool, what it is attached to sucks though.

X was a mistake. It seemed to function only to water-down the brand and weaken S-type sales.

He's right. Nobody is buying the $93K LS460L compared to a similarly-equipped S550. And most certainly NOBODY is leasing 325i's for less than Toyota Camrys!
