2008 Lexus IS 250 X Announced Australia
Lexus will launch a sports-inspired special edition of IS 250, dubbed IS 250 X.
Based on IS 250 (Australia’s Best Prestige vehicle), IS 250 X will be available in two signature colours - Arctic Blue and Vermilion, as well as Onyx Black, all matched to a black leather interior.
Only 450 examples of IS 250 X will be offered and will feature sports suspension, 14-speaker Mark Levinson stereo system, sunroof, satellite navigation, rear view camera with rear guide assist, Bluetooth™ handsfree telephone system, smooth leather seats, sports pedals, metallic scuff plates, unique five-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels and “X” badging.
The special model will be available in automatic and manual versions and will retail at an RRP of $64,790* and 67,390* respectively - saving owners in the order of $10,000 over the IS 250 Sports model.
“IS 250 X represents excellent value for money for prestige vehicle buyers, offering additional features for a fraction of the cost,” said Lexus Australia chief executive, John Roca.
“This is a once in a blue moon opportunity to secure a limited edition of Australia’s best prestige car - Lexus’ IS 250?
“Last year Lexus introduced a limited edition IS 250 model which sold out in six weeks - twice as fast as anticipated - and IS 250 X is expected to be just as popular”

This is news?
By the way, I saw the IS-F for the first time in person last night at the NY Auto Show. It does look better in person than in the pictures, but I'm still not a fan of the ricer-ish styling. I was showing my girlfriend how you could put your hand through the fake exhausts when a Lexus PR lady came up asking me to join their mailing list for more info on the car. I politely declined and headed over to check out the M3 convertible and sedan.

Sports edition IS250? No that's an oxymoron. 0-60 in 8+ seconds isn't sport. The IS250 is a slow dog of a performer and should never have the word "sport" associated with it.

C200K or 320i are perfectly fine cars for the people who don't need more performance.
I drive a C230 V6 yet could easily have bought a C350 or C55 AMG.

The 320d however does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds. Much better.

The IS250 for some people is "overpowered". Would be good if Lexus offered a 4-cylinder IS200 for example to secure extra sales in the market.

only ADOLESCENT, ignorant boyracers get so hung up over 0-60 times.
i drive a mere 1.8 car whose 0-60 i DON'T EVEN KNOW (never even bothered to look it up), but NO ONE has beat me yet in any cross town run. and FEW get mileage as great as i do.
slalomability means FAR MORE to me. (PLUS intelligent choice of lines and lanes, of course.)

GoObama08, I'd like to see your numbers that show the IS faster in a slalom than the M3.

I take it that the M3 was one of the "about half dozen capable sports cars" that the IS250 is faster than through the cones? If that's the case, then Lexus has done an impressive job with this car.

That's approximately $US 59,460 and $US 61,850.
With the rate of $US 1 = $AUS 0.9178

IS250 maybe not that fast but it competes very well with C180, C200, C230, C280, 320i, 323i, A4 1.8...etc and looks the best inside and out.

The IS250 doesn't compete against the 320i or C180 Kompressor and C200 Kompressor at all.
Furthermore the interior of the IS is heavily overrated. I wasn't very impressed with the supposed "best interior in class" (according to the Lexus fanboys on this site).

Lexus cars interiors are no better than toyotas.. The leather cracks and is damaged very easily and the headliner is one of the cheapest I have ever owned. Some of the crappiest carpet too.

I have a IS250, and as far as performance goes I am pleased. The main issue to me is: does it feel slow? Absolutely not, with a 6 sp. auto trans it's always in the right gear for the particular speed you're in.
Now, if you are full throttle mode most of the time you should buy the IS350, or the equivalent. If you want more than adequate acceleration 95% of the time, the IS250 is for you. My mileage is 24 city and 33 to 34 highway (73 mph avg). When gas gets $4/gal then we're talking real money.
In the curves the IS250 really shines, far better than the BMW 3 series I traded in for this car. I can tell you, in the curves the car gets up to speed and can be propelled at a frightening pace where you may want less power in these circumstances.

As the owner of 2005 IS250, the performance is very pleasing. I'm doing 90 w/incredible ease and super confidence on curves. Logged in 58,XXX mils in 24 months period..its a killer to drive. Most incredible thing about this car is how well everything is so adopted to your needs i.e. steering, feel of the buttons. Ergonomics are top notch. The interior is the best in class by a mile. whenever i look inside the BMW 3..i laugh at it. b/c its so damn outdated w/small dialed gauges and odd looking old 80's styled seats and stinky little buttons. another thing is the way IS has managed to attain beauty of its paintjob. Not a nick. Just one heck of a satisfied guy in Texas!

again, you prove my point that ONLY ADOLESCENTS make such a big deal about acceleration. mature, grown up folks have NO NEED to even benchrace.
many of the critics here likely have never even DRIVEN an IS or a 3'er, forming their mere OPINIONS from just road test reports.
my sporty wheels during the summer is a motorcycle. it IS INDEED, possible to have more HP than is comfortable when you drive at the edge of the envelope.
further, in ALL SEASONS, it is FAR MORE FUN driving a 'slow' vehicle FAST, than it is having to restrain yourself keeping a nominally fast machine reined in.
truly GREAT drivers, as well as those just GOOD but skilled and realistic, can have fun in ANY vehicle.
