Another childish comment from Lexus.

This technology is nice, however it isn't really news worthy at all.

I'd like to know when Lexus expects to replace the windscreen with a camera, with an image showing up on the centre console.

Infiniti already developed this technology with their all around view camera...Lexus is far from a "pioneer" in the luxury segement.

No, another USELESS techno gimmick from Lexus. Who needs this? What are the advantages of this?

"I can see around a corner before I even see the corner!"

Sounds lame.

0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Look, what's the point of this feature? That's my question. Part of driving is being aware of what's going on around you. That means using your senses, especially your eyes and in some cases your ears.

If people drove with awareness, we wouldn't need such gimmicks. I still feel that this is completely pointless. Self-parking has at least a degree of usefulness. This? Nope.

Bill...If you live in the country with wide open spaces I can see this as being overkill. But for those of us who live in the cities where your street empties out into an arterial w/ cars going 45+ and high walls built at the back of the sidewalk, it is almost impossible to see what cars are coming down the street until your hood is halfway into the street.

BillBill - 11/30/2007 5:16:59 AM

Mkk21,

So let me get this straight? We need these systems because Americans can't drive properly? I'm an American, I live in a major city and I've never had problems in the hypothetical situation you just described. If someone drives 45 mph in the city in areas where one is supposed to drive slower, well, then they're being careless and if caught should be severely punished. But I guess, for a vehicle aimed at soccer moms (who often can't drive properly), this must make sense then!

Seriously, this system sounds like a gimmick to me. More weight in an overweight car because people don't know how to drive properly. Great!

Why do i feel like this is total overkill?

So, great, you can see the entire view out front. Guess its really a pain these days to look out your windshield.

As for that side camera thingy....you cant see anything. Perhaps you could adjust your mirrors properly instead of staring at a screen trying to figure out what youre looking at.

Because little that Lexus brings forth is actually new. Laser Guided cruise control is a great feature if all of a sudden there is pileup accident infront of you, the car can actually detect the rapid slowing down of cars before any human can and get you to a stop safely, thats real innovation.

Blind Spot Monitoring system from Mazda
is a better system than this one. Check out the
blind spot monitoring system on Mazda CX-9 for
less than $40K!!!!!! Need I say more.
Why do I care about what is in front of me?
I can see them. The Mzada's system enables you to see
the rear and both blind spots (not just the passenger side).

yeah i think this is a really needed feature, because when you are coming out of tight corners with no apparent view of the road ahead, and all of a sudden a car might come from your right or left, it is in those situations that this may come handy, otherwise i don't think that people will need this feature to be honest.

The LX570 has not even been tested yet. Please spare me your Lexus fanboy bullshit.

The LX570 is a "soft-roader" designed to look like an "offroader" if you ask me. Cars like this need a hard suspension for offroad duty, but the LX570 will probably come with a plush, soft suspension designed for comfort. More reliable? Statiscally yes, but the LX570 is to new to be proven "reliable".

Best SUV? I can think of a ton of SUVs I'd rather get before this hideous thing.

If Lexus owners knew how to drive or anything about driving, they wouldn't have bought a Jap car. What Lexus stores do bleek518 and autopro work for. bleek518 is right about one thing---bleak=Lexus. Just remember, these cars and trucks all say Toyota on the windshield and door jamb ID tag. The same company that brought you the car styled after a SHOE, the ECHO. These are also the same guys that are more impressed with robots at the Tokyo Motor Show and other strange laughable designs. MidEngine are we related?

Oh please, spare me that garbage. The new Toyota Landcruiser has gone from "real offroader" to "soft roader". The Landcruisers of the past were made for unrestricted offroad duty. The ones we have today are still offroad capable but feel like "luxury barges" and "soft". Heck, I owned a '97 Landcruiser at one point and the thing drove like a boat onroad. It was good offroad, but it didn't feel as capable as the second generation Landcruiser, which I had the pleasure of driving offroad in Panama.

JUGNU

the old generation LX470 wasnt as offroad capable as the LC at that time. It always felt softer and better onroad. I expect the new one to be the same.

But never the less, the new LC is the WORST new SUV. If you got a chance to sit inside, you ll notice the cheap black plastic all over the dash, even the fully loaded one! The engine we get here in the UAE is the same pathetic 4.7l V8 producing 270hp.. and it costs almost as much as an Escalade.. but people still buy them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it doesn't. Infiniti sells roughly 12,000 cars a month, while Lexus sells about 10,000 RXs, but that number is going down because the Lexus is so outdated. The FX35's true colors show through--it looks SO MUCH newer than the RX350 even though they came out at the same time.

I think that its good that they are making strides in technology (no matter who developed it, Lexus is implementing/marketing it).

However, I am against all these useless technology being used in cars. This not only goes for this, but the back-up camera, self-parking, infrared camera, lane departure, and the list goes on. It just makes people worst drivers, because now they will be able to judge for themselves. People will rely on the technology, and practically sleep in their cars. STOP BEING LAZY and DRIVE!!!!!!

a wide view camera. this is newsworthy? like you have 2 minutes to push buttons and look at screens while you're parking the car and there are ten people waiting?

and the headline is way off...cameras can't see around corners. that would require mirrors a good distance out in front of the car.

I think the idea is that you get a view of the surroundings from the view from the bumper instead of from inside the car - in that respect the headline is sorta right. I'm sure this feature does not come standard and costs a pretty penny.

I'm not so sure it's completely useless though. Why does DARPA exist? It's a small step towards creating a factory supplied autonomous vehicle. If anything, it'd be a good study on the longevity & function of cameras on production vehicles.

if not, shaddup awready! in today's ultracompetitive marketplace, mfgrs pile TONS of features into their products, just to stay competitive. they also hold the line on prices for all these extras, for the same reason.

if you STILL don't like the prices, get an el strippo model or just do without! no one's twisting your arm to buy the bargain features mfgrs practically GIVE AWAY in their attempts to one-up the competition.
