2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class pricing announced
Both models are powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 with 228 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Transmission options include Benz's now familiar seven-speed automatic and a six-speed manual (available only for the C300 Sport). The range-topping C350 Sport Sedan comes with a bigger V-6 that puts out 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The 2008 C-Class will be arriving in dealer showrooms come August 7. Both C300 variants will be available with 4Matic all-wheel drive starting in September. 4Matic will not be available on the C350. Read Article

MB really needs to step up their game with this car. To have a less powerful engine than a Honda Accord, let alone any lexus, infinity, audi, or BMW is just pathetic. This can be a great car with a bit of work.

you might also want to look at the torque numbers. higher torque combined with rear-wheel drive is not comparable to front-drive car with more horsepower at high revs.

Yes, the 2008 C is on my shopping list but subject to a number of improvements over what we have seen so far. I don't like the 90-degree V6 and lack of LSD for the RWD version. I'm hoping to see the Vision C220 Bluetec sooner than later in North America.

oooh, I knew there'd be no manual C350 but no 4MATIC either? So MB is conceding that their target for that car is the Lexus IS350 then, they're giving up on the 335i/xi, S4, and G35. That's a shame...

This is called the C280 elsewhere.

Yes but in the US market, C280 sounds too weak...

The samething applies to the S class. In some countries its called the S500, but in the US its called the S550.. and its a 5.5l anyway.

New engines and 4MATIC will ultimately turn up on the C-Class, however it is still only new.

Xlnt price point MBZ, they did the right thing make it appeal to any buyer in terms of style and price. I think they have done what they had to do, going in a different direction in terms of radical style is not what Benz does plus the total retooling is very expensive. Keeep the car a unmistakble MBZ look and keep it fairly reasonable as luxury sport sedans go. Again fine job
