I hooked up my accelerator to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG pictures released
Following the release of the new facelifted Mercedes-Benz SLK, the AMG website has put up pictures of the brand new 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG. Technical specs wise, the SLK 55 AMG remains unchanged. It’s still equipped with the 5.5 liter V8 powerplant that produces 360 hp and a peak torque of 510 Nm. 0-60 still comes in at 4.9 seconds. 360 horsepower? Come on AMG, you guys could’ve added a little more horsepower (40 or so to take it to 400hp) to give us something to be excited about this holiday season. Oh well, maybe next year.
The only differences are a few visual enhancements. The front end of the AMG model now...

360-horsepower are more than enough for such a little compact car. The torque output is phenomenal already, and torque equates to quick acceleration, not horsepower.

Uh,
Thanks for the physics lesson. I think most of us already know that.

calm down. I think that you should keep things simple. Also, it wasnt a question that Bill was asking.

How do you figure that if it's 360HP vs 414HP?

You guys can argue about it until you are blue in the face. It's not just the horse power when it comes to straight line acceleration. A lot depends on the torque curve of the engine and the gearing in the transmission, not to mention the weight of the vehicle and inertia of rotating components like the wheels and tires. Just by changing the rear axle ratio on a RWD car can improve acceleration at the expense of top speed.

Yeah,
How DO you figure that? Don't they quote 0-60 (usually measured in a straight line) at 4.9sec in the article? I'm quite certain even I could beat that time in an M3.

EnnNorak, if you wanna talk about the tque curve, why is it still taking a lighter car 4.9 seconds to hit 60 as Neverfollow mentioned...and as far as gearing goes, mercedes isn't axactly known to have short gears either so where's the benefit there? and do you realize what will happen as speed increases? yes the heavier car will be less effected and will eventually say, Bye bye!

um...
4.9s is stated, which will probably be more like 4.4 sec when tested in "testing conditions". Thats almost similar to a more powerful, but also heavier M3...
I think many companies state their 0-60 in terms of everyday driving conditions. Only magazine tests uses striped out versions of the car to test acceleration.

Nice car but .0001 MPG turns me off in this day and age.

It's hard to get too excited about this car. It would be a great car for my wife though. AMG seems to have fallen way short on the performance side of this car. In my opinion it clearly is a woman's car.
