This is one great vehicle that could really put GM on the top! What do you think?

With 6.0 liter, a V8 and making only 362 horse power, that less than the GTO which has 400hp. It might help or it not help GM at all. Personal I don't like the look of this vechicle because it remind of the Nissan Altima SE-R type. I would rather get a Lexus IS500, RS4 or an M3 instead of this. GM need more than this to get back on top and it going to hard. It did not take one day for GM get to bottom, so it going to take more than a day for them to get back up.It will be really difficult for GM to back on top because of so much competition. You have the German with their, BMW, Audi, MB, than you have the Japanese brand, Lexus, Infiniti, Toyota, Nissan, Honda/Acura and than you have the Korean. And to make it worse the Chinese and India is coming to America really soon to sales their vechicles.Lexus— Lexus (View Profile)

Lexus-Are you kidding me? Listen to yourself: "I would rather get a Lexus IS500, RS4 or an M3 instead of this." Well anybody would take an expensive sport luxo sedan over a PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. This top of the line trim is no more than $35,000!This competes with the Chevrolet Impala SS.Utah-You meant "GM" (not GMC).— mstangpny07 (View Profile)

I think Motor Trend is trying to give us a view of what it could be. I read some of these comments on here and I laugh. Pontiac does NOT compete with BMW, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. It is a company that builds cars for the masses. People that do NOT want to spend $40K plus for an automobile. The fact that Pontiac may have a rear wheel drive sedan again is good for them and since GM owns Holden it only makes sense to use this new platform. It's said GM innvested $1 Billion (Australian dollars) into this platform. To get a muscle car V8 in an American Sedan for what probably will be priced around $29K - $35 Dollars is a steal. Lexus up there is posting he would rather buy a Lexus IS550 or an M3, etc....well many, MANY Americans can not afford to drop $60,000 on a car. GM is trying to stir up some excitement in their brands and it is about time. Cadillac is definately on the right track, and hopefully we will see more good GMs to come with this new platform. Time will tell, but if they get the styling right this time around they may have some winners. Also it is not that GM doesn't have good designers. I have a friend in the car design business and he says many times the designs get watered down due to the bean counters in GMs corporate machine trying to save money and save on costs. Sculptured hoods cost more to tool and press than flat ones, etc. I think (as does my friend) if GM this time just goes ahead and invests in some really great sheetmetal and in some really great interior trims and fittings, they could turn around....So come on Bean Counters open your wallets and let GM come back....— atomicbri (View Profile)

It all depends on where the price point ends up falling. If they can bring this thing in with a reasonable level of content for under 28,000.00 then it will sell. If they price it in the low 30's it will sit on the lot collecting dust. Hopefully they learned their lesson with the GTO. Had the GTO been priced around 25-28,000.00, it would have sold, but the minute you go north of 30,000,00, people at Pontiac dealerships start to get nervous and worry about paying their mortagage and making the car payment. — opus (View Profile)

How many times have we heard the, "this should put GM back on top" or "this should put Ford back on top". Only to find out the real deal is a just mediocre. — senorgato (View Profile)

i think if this is priced competitively with the dodge charger it may have success. it is not made to dethroan m3's. or even base model 3-series. it's made to be a rwd performance oriented alternative to a camry.— 1995e34 (View Profile)

Being that this is a chopped version of the very well recived new Commodore it may well be worth noting that the whole front end has been enginnered so that it can be relaced in one fowl swoop. That means GM can use the main body etc, but have a real difference for the front end to give it a more American look rather than the conservative European look the Holden guys gave it.— Flynndog (View Profile)

GM needs to offer this version of the Holden Commodore VSS in the US. It corrects several of the issues with the Holden-based GTO. The LS-2 is down on output but that it is simply a state of tune.Let'g go GM.— Carman (View Profile)

it's really gm's only option to regain any sort of reputation. building the best domestic suv doesn't really cut it. — 1995e34 (View Profile)

those who think nobody buys GM should take a trip to the midwest states and particularly the north midwest. there the domestics outsell the foreigns.secondly, it is a myth that has been perpetuated by popular culture. the myth of japanese superiority. americans have always wanted what is not american, they always want to take trips to other countries, but then they are also a bunch of sheep following the popular guys. why buy a lexus or acura pretender? they are blatant copies of euro luxury brands. has anybody seen the new lexus? friggen plagiarism is what you get. if BMW and MB lowered their prices, youd see lexus and acura and infinti sell very few cars.— BAROSSO (View Profile)

GM blew it when they called the Monaro a GTO in the USA. The vehicle was excellent (if a little conservatively styled) and, for its price, about the most refined, adult screamer you could get. No wings, giant hood scoops or carbon fiber anything, it was subtle and understated. Keep your WRXs and your EVOs and your sad Neons with turbos. This car should do better. It is not only good looking (note the body creases and lower air damn reminiscent of the Cadillac CTS), but the Grand Prix name is not as sacred to many as "GTO" and GM really needs to compete against Daimler/Chrysler's 300C/Charger platform and Ford's... well, they don't really have anything even close to this, unless you count the Grand Marquis/Crown Vic.Gm could get back into taxi sales with this RWD if it is offered in V6; police packages with a V8 would insure fleet sales as well. And they ought to make a limited edition between $35k and $40k with the 400hp tuned V8 and maybe some more aggressive aero styling. To answer questions about the styling of these vehicles: I guess I'm just white trash, but I like the look of Pontiacs. The new BMWs and Lexuses look like over-styled, droopy and more or less ugly. Toyotas and especially Scions look.. well, retareded is a politically incorrect word, but really... The Scion xB? Is the "b" for "box"? Is it a car made from the box that Honda ships the Element in?If GM put this on lots, I would buy one.Rick Wagoner, Bob Lutz - are you listening?— charlzm (View Profile)

Oh, and the new GM 100k mile warranty kind of makes Toyota and Honda look bad. Sure, the Asians have the rep for reliability, but my 129k miles 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix is still running fine, with only normal wear and tear issues. My 1988 Mitsubishi pickup was on its third manual transmission by the time I sold it at 126k miles.— charlzm (View Profile)

this new car is not a white trash car, and if you think that then you have a very simplistic mind. I bet some of you that are making fun of this car couldnt even afford it. Pontiac makes some very descent cars, i love the new body style of the grand prix. Its not meant to be a luxury car like a bmw or anything, its meant to be a sports car, and if you guys think they can do better than that, then why dont you try to go and design a car and see how well you can do it.— PntcKid08 (View Profile)
