2008 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
The 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is entering the 2008 motorsport season with engine output increased to 420 bhp. The car will be raced in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup, the world’s fastest international brand trophy, and worldwide in national Porsche Carrera Cups and GT3 Cup Challenges. 265 units of this production-based racing car developed in Weissach will be built on Porsche’s production line in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, marking a new record for a car of this category.

The most significant modification compared with last year’s model is the new rear end following the design of the production model. Air venting slits ensure better dissipation of heat at the rear. The 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine developed in Weissach is also based on the street-legal GT3 and develops maximum output of 420 bhp, 20 horsepower more than on the previous model. The sequential six-speed transmission with interruption of engine power enables the driver to shift up under full throttle without disengaging the clutch. The transmission itself has been optimised and the gear ratios adjusted to the characteristics of the engine.

Weighing 1,150 kg in race trim, the 2008 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup has a power-to-weight ratio of 2.7 kg per horsepower.

Only 7hp more than the new M3 and 3hp more than the IS-f? That's pityful.

And I thought the best car on earth is the F430 Scuderia?

BTW, how come there's GT2 and GT3, but not GT4? And what happened to the GT1, did they skipped it?

HP doesn't mean too much... Its also just about the best track car in the world. A GT3 RS will run with the F430 Scuderia.

GT2 and GT3 to compete in their respective classes in road racing. GT1 should be making a return soon, hopefully...

This is in no way piyful! More important than horsepower is power to weight ratio. I did not do the math but I will go out on a limb and say that this Porsche has a better ratio then the M3 and ISF.

The M3 weighs around 1660kg, this Porsche weighs 1150kg. It will be far quicker than an M3 or IS-F around a track.

the E91 M3 weighs about 1620kg, which makes a power-weight ratio of about 3.9kg/hp.

the IS-F weighs about 1730kg, which makes a power-weight ration of about 4.15kg/hp.

This is going at about 2.7kg/hp, compared with the 2.84kg/hp for a F430 Scuderia.

1995e34... uncalled for.

It's incredibly easy to do this. Check some specs and grab a calculator.

And it's not just about power to weight ratio. That's actually easy to do.

It's about driving dynamics, road feel, predictability, feedback, response time, and so on.

Also the Beemer and the Lexy use V8 power as the Porsche uses a Flat 6... now, THAT is impressive!!

420 hp from a 3.6 liter engine? That is superb. This is about as good as a car will get in terms of performance from a little 3.6 liter engine. That to me is the most amazing part of this car.

I am sure this is primarily for track use in the championship rounds and actually, this would be severely uncomfortable on the road because of the racing tuned suspension, this will be a great track car.

Even more amazing is the F430 Scuderia.
510hp from a 4.3 liter normally aspirated.

That is truly out of this world.

118.6 hp per liter. Simply insane.

lenkun, I love the F430 Scuderia AND the GT3 RS. And I want both of them. A lot.

SO WHY CAN'T YOU?

Porsche's flat six has HUGE power reserves.. that why RUF only works with untouched blocks

I went to a party about 2 weeks ago and the neighbors of the people who were having it escorted a friend and myself to their abode to see his GT3 RS. He acutally had two one of which he races in California- the one located here he only drives on Sunday.

I was impressed- it wasn't my forte but that car is one of the closest things I have ever seen to a true street-legal everyday racecar.
