WOAH! Way overpriced! Too close to Lexus territory!

The Land Cruiser name has been attached to some really great vehicles. I wonder how the market will react to such a high priced Toyota, especially when there is a very similar Lexus in close price territory. It would be interesting to see if this new model is received with any of the same feelings the VW Phaeton got here in the U.S.

Personally, I've always liked the Land Cruiser better than the LX. I have a feeling it won't be any different this time around.

absolutely agree that it is grossly overpriced. The FJ Cruiser remains the king of Toyota value.

That's more than a base LS!
Overpriced, I agree.
Although I will of course have to see how much the European version will cost.

I note the interior actually looks quite different from the LX570.

Like I mentioned before.. $63,200 and it doesn't even come with xenon headlights! It has lower offroad specs than a LR3 which is a fact:

2008 Land Cruiser:
30 degree approach
20 degree departure
21 degree breakover angle
8.9 ground clearance?

2005 - 2008 LR3:
37.2 degrees, ramp breakover angle of 27.9 degrees and a maximum departure angle of 29.6 degrees.

The LX570 already outhandles and outperforms a Cayenne Turbo S or ML63 AMG even without a high performance engine. Leave it to Lexus to put the Nazis to shame.

Xero, the LR3 with a third row has a better departure angle.

"With the suspension in normal mode the RR is not one bit better than the LC except in the departure angle, which is simply due to the lack of a 3rd-row seat."

You ignored me in the other article. The RR is still longer than the LC, third row or not.

Damn, I am a huge Lexus fan here but $63k for a Toyota Land Cruiser is to much. I would rather get the Lexus instead.

But since it had a Toyota badge it will sale like hot cake ;) yeah baby..., LOL :)

Well, no, not exactly. At this price you're attracting true luxury buyers- but I just don't see too many suburban housewifes going for the Toyota truck over the Mercedes-Benz GL450/550, which is at the same price or less.

Toyota is way over the top on this one. So with options likely about $66K and only a 3 year warranty. No way! Old school third row, no HIDs. It can't really compete at that price point. Land Rover, along with a few others, are a MUCH better buy. Toyota might have some egg on their face with this product.

XeroKool,

The Range Rover has more than trick air suspension over the Land Cruiser. Based on every published fact, the Range Rover's offroad specs are more impressive. Again, based on facts and info provided by Toyota themselves. This is not a fanboy spouting misinformation.

Toyota had 7 years to match the Range Rover. Unfortunately, it fell short. The LR3 and even the RRS has more breadth of capabilities.

XeroKool, Did you even look at the Toyota slides that Autospies showed. These are from Toyota. Did you even read the press release?

The specs of the 2008 Land Cruiser can't even match a 40K Land Rover so don't even go there with the Range Rover. The RR wil wipe the floor.

Notice in those slides, all the technological innovations have a stamp, "1st for Toyota," telling us that someone else had before them.

Nothing is revolutionary here. The Toyota KDSS system is an exact clone of the Dynamic Response/Cross Link Air suspension found on the low-end LR3.

Crawl mode is a rip off the terrain response. They copied the 2003's levers of the RR. Now, the RR has moved to the new dial terrrain response system. The center fridge is another copy.

Look at the slide: http://www.autospies.com/images/users/Agent001/2008-Land-Cruiser-ppt/18-09-20070909.09.54.jpg

The truck has no approach angle; looks like it will scrape the front bumper right off.

Look at the departure angles in this pict:
http://www.autospies.com/images/users/Agent001/2008-Land-Cruiser-ppt/18-09-20070909.11.25.jpg

Again, really bad. THis is press material that Toyota is presenting to the world.

I'll have to admit, the 8,5000 towing is pretty impressive. Offroad, it doesn't compete with even the NIssan Armada/FX56

From their very own press release, they only have a center locking differential.

The RR comes with Center and the rear locking is optional.
Look at this photo:
http://www.autospies.com/images/users/Agent001/2008-Land-Cruiser-ppt/18-09-20070909.10.52.jpg

For an offroader, you expect the Nav to have some offroad niceties as breadcrumb waypoints. Nope, this doesn't even have it. The Rovers have on-screen display of the wheel articulation and suspension heights.

Again, everything I post here is fact. None of the specs or claims are conjecture. Pure facts:

The offroad specs do not match the Rovers.

The FJ Cruiser is a better offroader. The GX470 is a better offroader.

The price is ridiculous. I'd buy me a G-Wagon G500 over this.

I would not want to cross Africa or the Middle East in a Land Rover. Way more chances of breaking down in the Rover versus a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Oh, please. Stop it now. That's not happening. It will have 3 more problems EVERY THREE YEARS than a Land Cruiser.

That Price is Simply Ridiculous!

What room does that leave for pricing the LEXUS version?

Ring me up when the Germans offer such a quality SUV that's so well equipped and can actually go offroad. The Landcruiser is worth every cent.

Mercedes G500

Angle of approach 36°
Angle of departure 27°

Front,Center, and Rear Locking Diffs.

Solid Axles all the way around..

The G500 is formidable only to the Land Rover Defender.

So yes, the Germans do offer a kick arse SUV old school style that would wipe the floor of the LC.

The pricing reflects its premium status, even as a Toyota (ie. not a Lexus). Toy does not expect to sell many of these, and it must maintain its premium status over the soon to be released (and likely to be much cheaper) Sequoia.

But as I said...

At this price you're attracting true luxury buyers- but I just don't see too many suburban housewives going for the Toyota truck over the Mercedes-Benz GL450/550, which is at the same price or less.

You know as well as I do that the majority of these buyers couldn't give two flying $hits about how many rocks this thing can crawl over.

And if they did, at this price they'd buy a Range Rover Sport, which is better off-road.
