2009 Acura TSX Caught In The Open
Enterprising young whipper-snapper of spy photos Chris Doane happened to snap up some shots of the next-generation 2009 Acura TSX right outside of Honda's US facilities.

The new TSX is expected to take on a more "aggressive look" that will, we're sure, not include the duct tape on this test vehicle, but will probably take design cues from the SPORTS 4 concept car Honda's luxe brand showed at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show.

Not as boring as trying to figure out if the is-f has 401 or 410 horsepower or what color it comes in other than blue.

But the TL is the ES's closest competitor, and as much as I dislike it for its blandness (I actually PREFER the ES), it sells very well.

The ES350 looks like a Camry that has been one too many times to the buffet. It is ungainly.... and it is a Camry in Lexus drag, no doubt. Maybe Honda should make the TSX look like an overweight Accord...and win over some Lexus fans since it seems they love GM-style badge engineering.

For some reason Acura cannot make a luxury car. Basically looks like a Toyota Camry competitor than anything to compete with Lexus. Until then, the Acura will be looked upon as a Honda with better handling and options.

When the Acura TL came out, it beat everyone in its class with the exception of the infiniti g35, which won based mainly on performance. The Acura RL did the same thing against its competitors, the Acuras are ready for their next generations now, but when they debuted, they beat the competition.

Blakura,

You couldn't be more wrong. The TL never beat any 3 series in handling and the RL was a disaster for Acura. The TL is classified as a torque steering beast that cannot keep itself pointed straight during hard acceleration. Sorry but torque steer isn't the recipe to beat out any BMW in hadling. And which competitor did the RL beat?

Instead of Acura it should be Wacura

The TL doesn't even offer AWD. There is almost no reason to buy it over a well-equipped V6 Accord. Actually, I'd take the new Accord over it, because the TL is on the old platform!

To me, a 250hp FWD midsized sedan with a bland exterior and no driving appeal makes the ES350 look like sex on wheels. It looks better, has more power and has many more luxury features. Neither of them can hang with a sport sedan- that's the IS.

And the RL... don't even get me started. I thought they couldn't design a more bland car than the TL, but then the RL came out. Wow. It's a wannabe A6- I'm a diehard Audi fan, but I'm not even terribly impressed by the A6. The S6 is amazing (they somehow transformed it into a car with class-leading handling), but the A6 makes me want to get a 5 Series instead. The RL is much worse.

BTW, before you call me biased, I love the new MDX. I want Acura to get a clue and make all of their new cars as appealing as it. It looks very athletic and modern, drives well and matches all of the competition for features. If they make all of their sedans bigger, their lineup would finally make sense: TSX would be A4/3/C/IS/G competitor, TL would be ES/GS/A6/E/M/5 competitor, and RL would be A8/S/LS/XJ/7 competitor, although it would be very hard for Acura to break into that sector unless they MADE A V8 AND ACTUALLY DESIGNED IT.

There is virtually no connections between Acura's concept models and their production models.

The TS-X (JDM Accord) never struck me a striking, or luxurious enough to be anything but an overpriced/smaller U.S. Accord...

This one (from what I can tell) is no different.

I must say I am a 100% Acura fan, but this is a little dissapointing. It looks like a smaller TL with the MDX grill. This is not a bad thing, but the design language has to last 5+ years if so this will look outdated. I was hoping for the Sports 4 Concept. Hopefully this photo is not genuine, because you would think the TSX would be in Japan testing or in Germany with the TL.

So where is the Sport 4? Proportionally there is nothing like a Sport 4 concept. To me its only a scale-up of current tsx/euro accord, where is the musculine look of the Sport 4? It is really a sad puppy compared to Sport 4.

Honda is so stubborn. That's all I can say. I love them, but I hate them at the same time. Acura should get its own designers, its own marketers, its own engineers(!!!), a completely new model lineup...

Hint they have there own 16 million dollar design studio. Maybe this is the TSX and the European Accord will look different. If in fact they want to go global now is the time to seperate the designs. After all Honda put a little RL and TL together and made the new Accord.

S4 to call the TL bland proves how much you don't know about cars. Bland is what Audi did with the new A4. 5 years later the TL still looks nice rear leds and the HID headlights look beautiful at night. The lines that strike the sides are elegant, I drive one and I do get attention. The interior is also far much classier than most vechicles in its class. The new ES is a nice vechicle but lets all agree the previous one was a joke to the TL interior, exterior and performance. Wait untill the 09 drops and we can talk.
ps I'm sure it will be a bigger hit than the A4 out about a month now and I havn't seen one yet.

The last generation ES had a more luxurious interior than the TL, which probably used faux wood.

Mikey, it's called an OPINION. I FIND THE TL BORING. There is nothing about a 260hp, FWD, mid-sized sedan with bland styling that looked old after its second year.

I again remind you that I love the MDX. The second Acura makes a good-looking TL, I will like it. The current one does not meet my criteria.

I may also remind you that I owned a TL, and a Vigor. I was an Acura fan until they dropped the RSX and NSX... that's what did it for me. Their two most interesting cars, gone.

Before you call the gorgeous new A4 boring, look at these:

http://autocar.co.uk/CarReviews/TestGallery.aspx?RT=228374&ED=53080&IM=139666

IMO it's the best-looking car in its class now... and no, I was not expecting that.

Isn't the base A4 eaxctly what you dislike about the TL? At least the new TL will not use last generations engine
