whats the big difference between the old 3 series and the new one. the x5 is too small they need to get their game plan right with that truck. I am still a bmw fan but nothin significant about the 3 series change to me— B7FAN (View Profile)

The addition of the 335d is significant B7FAN.I think that is what Agent001 is trying to get across. This new diesel version of the 3 series is awesome. Milage, performance and LOADS of TORQUE...I would love to get my hands on one...— QuantumMatrix (View Profile)

as posted in the 335d post, don't understand why the diesel is almost .1 seconds slower than the 335i with all that torque at lower RPMs?Also love the refresh, I'd be kinda pissed if I owned a previous year's model (been burned in the past also!!). — StarSearch (View Profile)

Star Search - cargo storage is not the only negative comment in reviews. I invite everyone to look at Automobile magazine's wrap-up long-term test of the X5 4.8i - a myriad of electrical problems, HVAC problems, iDrive problems, and 3 weeks to fix front suspension problems - which promptly reoccured. BMW quality has realy taken a down-turn.— nybimmer (View Profile)

Funny, we're going on a year ourselves with a 2008 X5 4.8i and haven't encountered any problems. It still feels new to me. The only thing that annoys me is how much it costs at the pump... and how often it needs it.— S4cabriofoxone (View Profile)

That's not necessarily true. Here, in Winnipeg, if you were to go fill up your Lexus/BMW/MB/Audi/whatever, you would be filling up on premium for 126.4-132.9 cents per liter. Compare that to 114.9 for diesel.— Hyundai (View Profile)

"Americans will LOVE the torque and the guilty pleasure of being able to drive with the pedal to the metal, WITHOUT having to sacrifice dollars from their wallets."You forgot to mention the price premium for fuel, the diesel engine option, and having to pay for the urea after a certain point. The advantage of buying one will be a near wash until the summer comes around, then owners will really feel the pinch.— Bmw8ter (View Profile)

The diesel "price premium" is becoming a thing of the past. Diesel fuel in Richmond, Virginia often sells for the same or less than premium unleaded - depends on what filling station you use. I have seen one station that still charges a $0.20 premium for diesel - insignificant given today's fuel prices.— Audiphile (View Profile)

I love the planned diesel options for the US.For the past few days, the price of petrol has been steadily falling. In Ohio, costs are around $3.10/gal, while diesel fuel costs remain above $4.00/gal. Hopefully the price of diesel will come down, respectively, in early 2009.— dumpsty (View Profile)

Wish they would bring the 3d wagon here but I guess they're afraid of losing x3/5 sales. Come to think of it, quite a few companies have wagons er, touring vehicles not for the US and leave us stuck with SUVs. At least Hyundai knows to bring a European-type tourer here (Elantra Touring), if only we could get them to bring the diesel version too. In Europe, diesels are pretty much standard issue engines when it comes to touring vehicles. — commander104 (View Profile)

Well, my wife's last car was an RX330 and she now has an X5. I don't think we would want to go back, storage space be damned. With the back seats folded the X5 seems bigger to me. The RX has a more steeply raked rear window and is a smaller car overall, so that doesn't really make sense.— S4cabriofoxone (View Profile)

I think a 330d would be a perfect compromise. If it came with AWD--or if the 335d comes with AWD--I would probably buy it. Without AWD the A4 3.0TDI makes far more sense to me.— S4cabriofoxone (View Profile)

I'm loving it, mates. Glad to see BMW bringing these diesels over, as I think more manufacturers should. VW should put in its Rabbit, and Audi should bring some over as well. I love diesel - yes, its more expensive for the time-being, but it is much more efficient and durable. Furthermore, I believe some of the future "alternative" fuels, like coal and gas to liquid diesel equivalents (CTL, GTL), will stand to benefit greatly if Americans start switching to diesel more. These liquids are already totally compatible with today's diesel. GTL is especially promising and can be used with today's existing petroleum products infrastructure. I hope these two BMWs will help launch the diesel revolution in the States.— CBOTGuy (View Profile)

Hey Agent 001, I just wanted to say BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS! Not just the cars but the scenery and the whole trip. Makes me think if when I was young. Visited Munich a lot since my grandfather had a home there (my mother inherited it now) and after seeing these photos, I long to go now more than ever! I think that will be my next destination!!! Oh and BTW, if BMW brings diesels here, I will trade my current 3 series for it!— atomicbri (View Profile)

I have owned all the brands you speak of...So no I was not too poor to buy any of them. Out of them all my Mercedes was the most boring to drive after a while, but was built like a tank and was my fav (and still is my fav) Mercedes, the W124 E-Class. Actually I think it was the really large steering wheel they had at the time that made it feel like I was driving a boat. Audi I had was nice, but being FWD never truly felt like a real performer. Now the BMW 3 Series (2nd one I have owned) is a great driver's car. Handles well, steers like no other. And my car is neither cheap, nor tin. So Teknik I am sure I have no clue as to your ECONOBOX TRASH comment. What do you drive??? Curious...— atomicbri (View Profile)
