2009 Cadillac CTS-V: Caddy gets a ZR-1 Sedan
The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will hit the roads in the fourth-quarter of 2008, giving the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG a run for their money with its 550 horsepower engine. According to an article in the new Road & Track issue, the Cadillac CTS-V shares major components with the new Chevrolet ZR-1 such as the supercharged 6.3 liter small-block V8, except with a smaller Eaton compressor.
Other elements that the ZR-1 and the CTS-V share are the 6-piston Brembo front brake calipers with 4-pistons in the rear. Both get GM’s new Magnetic Selective Ride Control technology which helps the rear axle remain planted during acceleration and helps suppress axle movement when cornering on broken or uneven pavement.
So will the CTS-V handle better than the M5? Well combined with...

Well if Cadillac wants to be taken seriously they better not screw this up. Gotta back up the hype! I wonder how it wil fair against the new RS6? I am sure it will be a good performer and we all know how easy it is for the German competitors to increase HP #s.
I can guarantee the CTS-V will be best in class MPG, braking (ZR-1 ceramic brakes are from Ferrari Enzo, but BIGGER!), and handling. Everything else in the CTS is great and hope it gets better in the V. Current M5 is old news and refresh is in order, but the M5 is still the sport sedan to beat and that is a testament to BMW. Wonder how the CTS-V will compete with new M5? So much to ponder.... =)

it supposedly has 550 bhp and 550 ftlb of torque.
it'll be a beast to beat but i'd like to know the pricing, because not one performance part on that car is cheap on paper.
either way whether it's going to be expensive or a great bargain, this car is one of the few things gm has ever done right with cadillac.

Forgot to mention that only issue I have with the new CTS-V is the front end. Not asthetically pleasing...

should be able to get this a year later for sub-$60k. Unfortunately...it will still be a Cadillac.
I'd get an RS6 for quattro alone.

why is the CTS-v being compared to an e63 or m5?
shouldn't it be compared to a c63 and m3?
the STS-V should be compared to the e63 and m5?

I agree, as far as I'm concerned, the CTS competes with the 3-series, C-class, IS, A4, G37 etc...
In that class however (the one I mentioned above), I would take the CTS over all the competition, HANDS DOWN. I love the competition, seriously, you cannot go wrong with any of the cars mentioned above.... but the CTS is just that damn good, good job GM!

It's compared to the M5 and E63 based on it's size and power levels. May be prices with the M3 and others, but it's overall character and such WILL be closer to that of the M5 rather than M3.

Appealing car from Cadi, when compared to the other brands cadillac definately is the most spoken in terms of future product (sixteen, cien) innovation, and design from the Americas as always.

CTS is now compared to the 5 series due to it's larger size even though it's in the same price class as the 3 series.

This website has some of the most ignorant posters I have seen. A couple claim ignorance through age, but others just make me scratch my head. Hopefully all posters like BMW3series on this site are 18 or younger or my opinion of the average adult needs reassessed.

My only problem with the CTS-V is the grill. It looks just like the last CTS-V. The new grill on the base model makes the CTS look so much better than the previous version. Let's see the CTS-V with the base model grill and more aggresive ground effects.
