2009 RL will be the world's first production model with the XM weather function,
Several more '09 Acura TSX, RL, and TL updates

While we're awaiting official details to be released regarding the upcoming refresh for the 2009 RL at next week's Chicago Auto Show, a few updates have come in regarding the 2009 TSX, TL, and RL.
First off, the '09 TSX's onsale date has once again been "confirmed" as 4/24/08. Word from this source is that it will only be offered in front-wheel-drive, at least initially. If this is true, this would also tend to dampen the (renewed) rumors of the turbocharged K23 making it, at least initially. In addition to the XM weather feature that's already been mentioned (the 2009 RL will be the world's first production model with the XM weather function), the RL will reportedly finally get cooled front seats (strangely, these were always offered in Canada). Supposedly the RL will continue with a 3.5L motor, but it will now deliver 306hp. Considering that the '09 TL will supposedly be getting a 3.5L (FF) and 3.7L (SH-AWD), it seems odd that the RL would stick with the 3.5, so this might be an error. The styling revisions to the RL are said to have given the car an edgier look.
The same source indicated that the 2009 TL will be offered in both front-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, with the front-drive models running a 3.5L V6 and the SH-AWD model getting a 3.7L version. We had heard a while back that the SH-AWD version would deliver a little over 300hp, so we're guessing that's the same motor that the 306hp RL will be getting, and they'll both be 3.7L.

Although I was hoping for a V8 it's only a refreshed, the added tech is more critical than the engine.

The RL doesnt need botox. It needs a complete overhaul, head to toe.

To true Chip...to true.
And I might go as far as saying all of Honda needs an overhaul. They have kinda been "phoning it in" since the late 90's. Sort of like Toyota of late.
The only thing they have going for them right now is that they aren't Mitsubishi...which is about a strong breeze away from collapse.

Still sticking to FWD? Oh well. From this article, it sounds like Acura is at least trying to make a comeback.

the second gen RL was never a FWD car to begin with.

just because every car came with standard AWD doesn't mean it wasn't derived from a FWD platform.

ghosthunter-
I know the RL wasn't FWD. The article also mentioned the TL and the TSX.

Still sounds like a dullard car to me. I agree with dugit, this XM bullshit ain't gonna do a thing to help this car. This is Acura's problem. They keep adding this techno-geek bs to an otherwise lackluster car. I mean really, again is there a point to having the RL when the TL is going to have the same features and a very similar engine? Acura = the very definition of pointless.

I predict that Acura will go out of business in 5 years unless they release a RWD vehicle.

I'm a fan of Honda/Acura. I love their emphasis on value and have no problem with platform sharing, etc. I own an MDX and an RL and love them both. Yes, I've had significant seat time in an MB E and BMW 5 series. Also, my brother owns a 750Li and I've spend good time in that as well.
Having said that, I agree, this refresh probably will do nothing to help sales unless they give it more power. TOV said it's the same 3.5 with a small boost in HP. A re-tuned J37 sounded like a good idea for an MMC, especially with gas prices continuing to rise and v8 engines starting to be less and less on peoples christmas lists.
By the way, like I said, I own an RL and I never feel reminded it has a front heavy transaxle setup. It drives fantastic in that regard and has relatively light and responsive steering. Don't let that ever stop you from buying one unless you are looking for track car

I don't understand Acura. WHAT PART DON'T THEY GET??? The RL (or whatever they decide to call their flagship sedan) needs a V8, at least as an option, to succeed in America.
The world is a strange place these days. Hyundai builds a V8, Acura still refuses. You'd think the RL's dismal sales would make it obvious. The RL is a fantastic car, other than being underpowered and overpriced. Either bring in a V8, or sell the car for $35k instead of 50.

You are 100% correct. My 2008 Cadillac has weather info for the current location, extended forecast, weather along route when navigating, and weather warnings in the area. All through my XM subscription. Sorry Acura, kinda missed the boat on 'world's first' anything :)

Hey guys be patient we only a few days away to see what rl and tsx look like and than you can do your judgment, I know acura need a v8 in they line up they need it’s badly, it’s cannot happen over night just give them time it’s gonna come soon, remember that about 60 to 80 percent of buyer doesn’t know what drive Tran the car come with or what size engine the car have, all acura need to work is the exterior longest the car look good and flashy can take some 20” or 22” the shouldn’t have any problem getting back in the game.

The RL is a stretched Accord with enough overhang to build another car. The RL is a joke. Acura would have been better off to drop it until they can build a real car that did not start life as a FWD Accord.

My TL has XM weather tracking too mblover, but this must be something different because I tell you this the CTS does not have it. Just like the RL was the first production vechicle with XM Traffic navigation.

I pride my self as the biggest skeptic of Acura on this blog. That said, I'm am truly excited about the prospects of a AWD diesel TSX. What a coup for Acura to have the one and only car of it's type in the U.S and in the mid 20Ks.
