2010 Audi RS5 to get 4.2L V8 from RS4

The next generation Audi RS4 is rumored from reputable sources to get the same supercharged 3.

0 TFSI V6 engine
as the 2010 Audi S4 but tweaked to produce 400hp. The V8 engine in the current generation will go to the Audi RS5 and will be twin-turboed to produce 450hp with a peak torque of 332 lb-ft, this will allow a 0 to 62 time in the low 4.-something seconds. The Audi RS5 Cabriolet will also makes its debut sometime later. This news is a big disapointment. First disappointment is how the 2010 S4 isn’t having a bi-turbo which is great for modding. Then the RS4, will only produce 400hp, it needs to have more to compete with the BMW M3. Then the Audi RS5 which I and others though would have a V10 producing around 500hp but instead has 450hp for a car that is expected to be priced over $70k.

They don't want to put in too large of an engine into something that can handle decently. They wouldn't want the RS5/RS4 to break the 8 minute mark around the ring ;)

Why not? 480hp GT-R runs 7:26, so shouldn't 450hp RS5 run 7:55 at least to justify $70K? If not then you might as well put in another 20K for 911.

Well since Audi can't get there v8 R8 to get under 8 minutes, I would find it hard to believe that a similarly powered much heavier front engined car tuned by the same people, would have an even harder time.

I can deal with this audi I think this and the S6(which is my favorite) are the hottest models they make. im not an R8 fan too much but thats my opinion personally i would get the gallardo. but this RS5 is going to be something sweet cant wait to see one in person

While I agree with you in everything except the R8 comment. I am a proud owner of a 4.2 R8 and it hasn't done me wrong and hasn't missed a beat since I got it. I bring it to the track and it brings tons of smiles to my face. However, I did wish I waited for the V10 because that thing sounds like a monster. As for the Gallardo, that's a completely different beast. My one argument with the R8 vs. Gallardo is that any sane person would go for the Gallardo but I felt like there was too many in my city so I thought, "Hey why not be the first or one of the first to have one of these badboys?". So I don't blame you for thinking of the Gallardo first. #1 it's more exotic, #2 more expensive, #3 howls like no other. Aside from it being economically more practical, the R8 is more practical for everyday driving. It's the most expensive car i've ever owned and is damn proud of it! 70K Canadian more than my S550 :(

Anyhow,

I agree the RS5 will be another beast to demand respect. The sound of that V8 and the handsome looks will definitely be a head turner. I'm a complete Mercedes fan but Audi's as of late have me sold. Can't blame me for that one either cause the A5/S5/RS5 are handsome brutes!

twin turbos on top of an engine that already makes 420 hp, I'm sure it'll produce more than 450 hp.

I think it's more likely the car won't have turbos. That's only 30hp and 15lb-ft more than the existing 4.2L. That sounds like tweaking, not adding twin turbos.

When car companies convert over from high revving N/A to forced induction they tend to lower the revs which in turn lowers the power, but still keeps the peak torque number the same.

Article makes no sense. The new S4 is getting the 3.0T Supercharged V6 at 340 bph. Also, the S5 will switch to this engine by 2011 with the cab getting it immediately at launch at end of the year. The upcoming RS5 is likely to get a 450 bph N/A V8 though nothing is confirmed. As for the RS4, there have been no hints of anything remotely related to an RS4 yet alone the specs at this time. It is very unlikely that the new RS4 will settle for only 400 bhp considering the previous generation had 420 bhp. However, Audi is eliminating V8s as are other premium carmakers. So, we will just have to wait and see.

I really don't understand and is not sense to me to make to much models, sedan and avant , SUV different sizes , which is the point of this. A3/A4/A5/A6 sedan and avant, now Q7/Q5 and soon Q3 ans A1 also.
Well they know what are they doing. I hope so. Will see which is the end of all of this.

This whole article makes no sense.
Previous RS4 produced 420hp from NA 4.2L V8 so why will a TT version produce Less ?

Unless Audi is planning to shed a whole lot of weight in the next gen RS4.
