2010 BMW 335d Caught In The Mojave Desert
You’re looking at the 2010 BMW 335d with just a bit of tape obscuring the refreshed details. Both cars were (probably) hot weather testing out in Death Valley and the crews were headed into Sin City for a bit of R&R.

You can see the sill above the tailpipes has more lines across it. The body also seems to have an additional strake below the infamous Kink. The taped tail lights indicate somethings up with them.

According to numerous sources and tests, the world's cleanest diesel is the Mercedes Blu-tec...

Get your facts straight. deisel is a lot cleaner than petrol. I do agree that BMW should come out with a diesel hybrid, but I would rather drive hydrogen, wouldnt you want to get 100 miles on a gallon of just water?
BMW is waiting for the rest of the world to catch up. They are ready when the rest of the world is.

MT ... yare are apparently on crack? BMW is the Leader in engine design. The diesel that BMW offers is better and cleaner than any of your other toyota products. But everyone is biased, so toyota is the best. You are like a crack whore trying to convince anyone that she is still not addicted ... idiots around us

MT, care to elaborate a bit on that?! Are you saying that Lexus is the superior engine builder? Because I have quite a bit of stats that says otherwise...

@2ndbimmer,

“BMW is waiting for the rest of the world to catch up. They are ready when the rest of the world is.”

You mean they way they have their hydrogen car?
You should seriously get educated:

1 gallon of water sends BMW to no where; mankind has yet to develop a technology to extract power from RAW water.

1 gallon of liquid hydrogen sends BMW 4.7 miles, because it use the combustion engine and burns the hydrogen, it requires LIQUID hydrogen input which makes the refueling very difficult. (Less than 6 fuel stations are able to refuel the hydrogen 7 if you don’t know that). And the fact it combusts hydrogen result in extremely low MPG on hydrogen, so to make it practical, you need a HUGE/Heavy tank (roughly 550 lb by itself) to store hydrogen. Thanks to all those weight and spaces it required, the system that bmw has cannot be put into any car smaller than 7. And to make acceleration of this heavy combustion hydrogen car acceptable, a V12, 6.0L is needed so the car can achieve 0-60 in 9.5 second (don’t even talk about handle, with 5100 lb, handling is a joke).
So after all those, the hydrogen 7 is about to show off its hydrogen power for about 100 miles, and when it run on gas, it gets lower mpg (16.9) than a truck (no wonder, it weights more than a truck).

so, combusting hydrogen is by no mean to be advanced. and no one need to catch up on that. face it. BMW is lagging behind on Diesel (behind AUDI/VW), hydrogen (Honda), hybrid (Honda/Toyota)

Ghosthunter, how is it BMW is lagging behind anyone with diesel tech?! They have THE most advanced diesels on the market... And the ones with the highest efficiency (Energy out to energy in ratio) and specific output (hp/l) and lowest specific consumption (g/kWh). Audis diesels aren't nearly as advanced or refined as the BMW-counterparts! Believe me, I've driven and messed around with plenty of both! VAG released their first 4-cyl common rail for the Tiguan for crying out loud!!!

As to the hydrogen7, I agree, that is a lowsy car, HOWEVER, it is a showcase of a technology which could be in large scale production as soon as there is a proper storage solution. Fuel cell cars are still too expensive and technically difficult to be close to large scale production. And I know what Honda have said about their fuel cell cars, but I'll see it before I believe it!
And let's talk about the technical aspects of the Hydrogen7... The reason why it gets such a lowsy mileage on hydrogen is, as you mentioned, because it is dual fuel. And that means very low compression ratio and very fuel to air mixture on hydrogen. However, a pure hydrogen engine gets the exact same MPG as a similarly powered gasoline engine. The hydrogen ICE is a stepping stone to hydrogen fuel cells which scientists still claim is at least 25 years from large scale production!
The thing you want to focus on with the hydrogen7 being bad is the fact that burning hydrogen gives you very high temperatures and that enables the forming of NOx'es in the combustion chamber, which is bad, but that could be cured with AdBlue-like filters... And that really just brings the downsides of hydrogen ICEs to the liquid hydrogen. And that is being resolved as we speak. By using relatively expensive high precision regulators, it is possible to use compressed hydrogen instead. Granted, this is a few years away, but it is comming. So though it might not be as optimal a solution as fuel cells, it is still a big step up from petroleum burners! And it is way closer to large scale production than fuel cells.

TheSailor
thanks for the reply. your comment is very informative.

idealy, what would be the compression ratio for 'pure' hydrogen engine? could you also provide a link that explains more to the hydrogen ICE? frankly, i have never heard of the hydrogen ice and how it operates as a energy source.

Wow MichaelTaylor, Lexus are the worst, if I ripped off the "L" on any Lexus you would have to take a second to figure out if it was a Toyota or a Lexus. Its just an overpriced Toyota. And the engine in the BMWs are 100 times better without a doubt, and yes Amy Winehouse is a crack whore, but not talentless. You are ridiculous!

Could it be?! Is it really?! Are anybody else thinking what I'm thinking?! Is BMW really going to ditch the Nissan Primera'ish E90 rear lights for the E92 lights?! The tape hides exactly the difference! That would be awesome!

Ohh... And that engine is great! You guys really have something to look forward to with this engine! It gives you far better mileage than any other car with equal horsepower and performance! And it's cleaner as well!

Really... Look at the post facelifted Primera P11 (144)... And they actually look even more like those on the original Avensis...

Anyway, I'm not a hater (not by any standard) quite the contrary actually, however, I do have enough grip on reality to not include a car brand in my screen name and be able to admit when something is wrong! And the E90 rear is wrong! It looks like a early 00's japanese car!

The sailor hej :)

I must admit i never really liked the e90 sedan, the rearend looks boring and the lights like an primera. the coupe looks good :) Look forward to the new 3 series in 2012.

now I know why you made such foolish statements.....what in gods name does having a car name in my screenname have to do with reality......or for that matter anyone elses on this site......not to mention the "G20" again looked nothing like the 3 series...it had large tail lamps which wrapped around the entire back of the car up till the license plate.....uh...thats no where near like a 3 series....not to mention the latest generation Primera has vertical taillamps similar to a cadillac......so again foolish comment....you must have been blindfolded when you decided that lol...how rediculous

Damn MichaelTaylor! What the hell is wrong with you? You have to know that Lexus is a division of Toyota. That means that they actually do NOT build cars. Toyota does, so Lexus cannot own BMW in any departments. And winning Engine of the year 4 years running is very impressive.

If Lexoyta won it, you would act like jesus came back and was driving a fancy Toyota. Put the drugs down.

silver.

um, no.

bmw owns mini, but it's a separate brand with a rich history and design language all its own.

bmw also owns rolls royce. so by your logic, a bmw is just a scaled down rolls?

Isn't this the 2009 3 Series, not 2010? I believe BMW is importing the 335d for the 09 model year. As for the "de rigeur" indicator lights on the rearview mirrors, I think Agent009 is wrong on that, too. It's just tape. BMW's flank side indicators are embedded in the front fender.

Wonder how many service problems will be reported with gasoline mixed in with ad-blue?

Bet potential customers can't wait to do some heavy hauling and towing with this car. It's obvous the 335d is a utility vehicle given all that torque.

Should be able to move a few models if they continue offering 2% financing.

Another flop waiting to happen. Mercedes couldn't do it, what makes BMW think they can?
