2010 Ford Mustang is Going to be smaller
With gas prices rising smaller is becoming the new trend. Everything is downsizing, driving a big car now is “uncool”. Ford knows this and is going to make its next-generation 2010 Mustang look smaller. It’s rumored that the next Mustang is going to get more fuel efficient powertrains as well such as the 3.5 liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6. I like the current generation mustang and hope the 2010 looks pretty much the same. What do you think of the new design? Read Article

Isn't this the same thing ford did with the mustang after the fuel crisis in the in the late 70's and early 80's. The Mustang II in 1976 i believe, and the first fox body cars on 4cy engines in 1980.

A smaller Mustang is its death knell. Customers will prefer to drive even more fuel efficient small (but large inside) sporty sedans like the Passat 2.0T.

I thought they were only going to make it LOOK smaller...(older article). Well maybe they can make it not suck as bad as the rest of the ford lineup.

Yeah DexD, Ford puts history above common sense e.g. resurrecting the dreaded Taurus name. Of course, not everyone thinks the original Taurus was crap -- there is a guy in my building who keeps an older Taurus under a car cover in our underground garage and treats it like a collectible.

it would be great if they made it too small for the human eye to see!

From what I remeber from a previous article is that the car will not be smaller but use design elements to make it appear smaller...the statement about the engines seem spot on though.

I'm not huge Mustang guy, but man if they build that design (Guigiaro) with the Ecoboost ............I think they will sell a ton of them.

I hope the next Mustang is as much like the Giugiaro prototype shown here.......I loved the show car.
The Mustang II was not only downsized, it was castrated with the early emission controls that made the four cylindar a pig and the six barely able to propel the poor thing.
New emissions systems should really help and a modern four could probably pull a smaller Mustang with enough performance. The SVO Mustang was pretty much fun using that formula.
