2010 Ford Taurus image leaked - Nice, but what’s that in the background?
We were going to stay away from posting anything on the leaked image of the 2010 Ford Taurus that you guys probably saw around the web yesterday since Ford had contacted many sites to take it down. But after getting an interesting tip from ‘Thumper’ and seeing InsideLine post the image without being scared of any legal action from Ford, we couldn’t hold it in.

Besides seeing the new Superman 2010 Ford Taurus in the image, observative ‘Thumper’ pointed another vehicle in the shot that he believes could be a clay carve out of the production Lincoln MKR or even a Taurus or MKS coupe.

Thumper writes: in the picture of the “new” Taurus everybody is talking about did anybody take the time to notice the awfully Lincoln MKS-ish looking coupe in the background of that pic? If you look in the back of the pic there is a mustang wheel, now we all know the MKR concept was based on a mustang. Is it possible this car rolled into the design studio on mustang gear...

Ford has always had good concepts.... but they never build them for production. When they are built they are a mere shadow of what they could have been. Maybe they plan to finally take their heads out of their a$$. Lets hope....

germanautoaddict, you're fogetting the Ford GT, which did make production from its concept. And it's a great car, capable of keeping up witht the best out there (except the Bugatti, which is in its own world)with its 0 to 60 time of 3.3 seconds and alluminum body.

I like Ford's new kinetic designed cars like Mondeo and Focus. Except 500.

the current gen. ford looks really generic, ESPECIALLY compared to the 2010!!!
really, saying that a ford looks awesome is (was) an oxymoron. Until now, that is!

i love the design!!

LET'S HOPE IT'S NOT FRONT WHEEL DRIVE!

It's nice, though.

But one must think: If GM can bring the Holden Commodore to the U.S. and badge it as a Pontiac G8, what's stopping Ford from bring the Falcon and badging it as a Taurus?

I cant believe what I just laid my eyes on! A beautiful sedan, FOR THE U.S., with a Ford badge!!! WTF!

Question, so where does this leave the Crown Vic replacement? Im guessing:
Compact = Focus
Midsize = Fusion
Fullsize = (will now be) Taurus

If they are combining Taurus/Crown Victoria, it would only make sense to offer this in RWD or AWD ONLY form.

Sounds TOO good to be true though right? Guess we will see...

im confused on what you mean the Taurus has always been a fullsize car and under the crown vic since its inception, with a smaller midsize car under it, and than a compact. it has always gone crown vic, taurus, something either tempo or contour, escort/focus. so dont see your point????

Where was this design 3 years ago on the redesign? This is a more than suitable looking replacement for the current generation Taurus. There's one thing that is really killing me inside though. It's the blocked wheel wells. This tends to be a Ford NA design que; but, it's incredibly ugly...IMO.

Looks Okay to me but stigma of the previous Tauraus's High rebates and Low resale Values might hurt this thing initially.

Having said that, if the new Taurus proves itself by being a bit more reliable, especially in the electronic department then it could posibly the car Ford has been looking for.

And, I'm pretty sure the Ford fans are somewhat relieved by seeing a fresh design of this model. The shape of the Taurus for the past 10 years or so was basically a copy of the Jaguar. The shape was oval everywhere.

This new Tauraus is in a way..very Euro look in my opinion.

Good luck, Ford!

btw, EL34 drives 1985 Yugo ;)

I disagree. The American market is very forgiving, especially when it comes to domestic car brands. Whenever Ford, Chrysler or GM come out with a breakthrough product (300C, Malibu, now Taurus), all memories of previous models are erased and it's an instant hit.

you cant just judge a whole market of cars from japan on just one or two models, you idiot! and yes, the pilot has gotten ugly, but that doesnt make all japANESE cars ugly! youre sounding like EL34

you know Ford borrowed the mazda 6s platform and reshaped it on the fusion? I guess without the "jap trash" ford wouldn't be able to sell a vehicle that could save themselves, but wait, thanks to their crappy line-up, their 2 dealerships in my area closed. and the fusion looks like a prelude.

The Avensis is like a huge yawn next to this car. I'm not just saying that as a "troll"--it's simply true. The Avensis has no styling and no personality.

FYI, this car doesnt follow ford's current design theme, as seen in the edge, escape, old taurus, expedition, etc.
but maybe that's a good thing, seeing how the current taurus is so generic, plain, ugly....i like this new one

You're right, it doesn't. It's one of the first steps in Ford's globalization plan.

In a nutshell, this is how Fords look in Europe. The Focus, Mondeo (Fusion), Fiesta and others are far more attractive than their US counterparts. The new Taurus will be the beginning of a more attractive US lineup.

OK This is how it will go from here....

Ford will make this amazing concept and get us all excited during an upcoming auto show season.

Then, upon actually constructing the vehicle, the vehicle will be a total let-down plastic P.O.S. and no one will buy it.

It just amazes me there's not one person in that boardroom who knows how to make a great car anymore.

The Accord is disappointing. I had liked it at first, but it's now massive, awkward-looking and doesn't drive as well as it used to. I think the time is ripe for Ford to give Toyota and Honda a wakeup call.
