2010 Ford Taurus vs. 2009 Honda Accord: Which Is The Better Midsized Sedan?

If you understand the limitless desire of Americans for personal space, then you understand the thinking behind the 2010 Ford Taurus Limited and 2009 Honda Accord EX-L V6 with Navigation.

Taurus and Accord may be iconic midsize-sedan nameplates, but now the badges are on large-car rumps.

Officially, the 2010 Ford Taurus and 2009 Honda Accord each seat five. Realistically, neither of these large sedans will ever see more than four passengers. And nobody will so much as rub an elbow, shoulder, buttock or knee during the 15-minute drive to the sushi buffet.

As crossovers promise everyone a whole row of seating to himself, families are fleeing even the roomiest of family sedans like these. So you might be driving around by yourself in a Ford Taurus or Honda Accord. And you might care about something besides shoulder room and legroom.

I dont feel that any one would really cross shop the two. I have driven both along with the Camry and the Taurus is significantly larger inside than the Accord. I do realize that the numbers dont say the same in paper but the Accord is only slightly larger in real life than the Camry but they are in different categories. The Taurus is more cross shopped against the Avalon and Azera type cars. Besides did anyone really expect them to pick anything over the great and glorious Honda corporation.

Edmunds has been off lately with their comparison a Taurus vs Accord, this is as bad as the SHO vs G37. They complained the SHO wasnt as nimble as the G37 lol its longer than a Q45 what did you expect. The fusion competes with the Accord not the "Avalon" competing Taurus. Hugely unfair comparison, most that know nothing of cars wont even recognize this.

I think the comparison is quite accurate. The Honda Accord and Ford Taurus were traditional adverasries back in the early to mid 90s. This was when both were sold in the mid to upper 300k region and there were fingers crossed as to which was the best selling sedan in the US for that year. Now that both have grown up from being mid-sized to full-sized it was good to see them duking it out once again. My only problem with the article was the writer's insitence on calling the Accord the "2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6 with Navigation" at every opportunity. Seems annoyingly juvenile in the presentation and served only to irritate me. You only need to tell us that the damn thing is a 2010, is a Honda, is a V6 and is an EX-L ONCE. After that, just say "the Accord". Dayum...

The Taurus is the clear winner here. Not only did Edmunds add 4k worth of options then complain it was too expensive, but the Taurus beats the Accord in all the areas that matter in this segment. Roomier, better interior, quiet, and better MPG. Nobody cares about .04 better skidpad and slighty better 0-60 here.

Yes, the Taurus had options to help octogenarians that need cataract surgery to avoid running over children and miatas, but the Accord also had several thousand in options I'd rather have that the Taurus was missing.
