The sale of the Honda Insight in Japan has been soaring at 200% above its monthly target. With a price of 1.89 million ($20,600) Yen in Japan makes the Insight the least expensive hybrid car on sale, being justifiably economical even when fuel costs are fairly low, helping it to succeed where others met with nothing but failure.

This provides a great possibility that a US spec Insight is in view, provided that its success in Japan filters over to America. The initial sales number is not expected to be large considering the economic condition of the US. If the Insight went on sale before the economic downturn, it would have been a hot-seller. However, the tremendous success of the Insight in Japan is reason enough for the carmaker to look at the future of the Insight with optimism.
