These spy pics of the Lexus IS-F Evolution are very exciting considering that it’s near the end of its 150kg weight loss program.

Reports have come out previously about the hood, roof, front and rear fenders/bumpers and trunk lid being made of carbon fiber to drop up to 150KG in weight.

These pics confirm the addition of a rear wing and highly supportive carbon backed Recaro seats. Also confirmed previously are a proper Torsen LSD and revised suspension to offer a firmer ride over standard. These pics could even already be showing the production ready examples of the BBS alloy wheels to be included in the IS-F Evolution package. It’s been reported that the development code name for the IS-F Evolution is 182A.

I have a neighbor who currently owns and drives the same BMW Evolution. I've never even seen a Mitsubishi Evolution in person. So TODAY, I associate BMW with Evolution.

Interesting.... While BMW's gone soft and keep feeding US big muscle kinda SUVs, LEXUS has gone hardcore with production car fitted w/ Ricaro seat, not to mention a proper 2 seats, 9000 rpm LF-A. I wonder which company is more sporty now. Eventually, BMW's only sports car, Z4, has gone lovely feminine, luxurious, and of course, more understeer.

Sad....... It's not gonna be on my list again for next car. Here I come, Por!

Hint: the whole LF-A argument is not only old, It's Nonexistent.

First of all, it's RECARO, not Ricaro or Ricardo.

Putting racing seats in a car isn't something new nor it is something that can nearly be called "hardcore" (oh maybe for Lexus fans who are so used to marshmallow soft yet unsopportive seats)

Recaro seats where available on the 1990 VW Corrado G60, on the 1993 Isuzu Impulse, and I also think Hyndai offered them as an option on the Tiburon at one time, maybe Hyundaismoke can be useful for one time and confirm this.

I think the reason it is not out yet is they planned on using the GTR tranny, but since that thing is made of Swiss cheese they had to go back to the drawing board. Anybody know where the Lexus ended up in the standings of the 24 hours of Nurb?

MSP6: That depends on how you define 'hardcore'- since it's subjective there's no point of picking on this. Is a 300 hp tuner Civic with SPARCO seats really more hardcore than 500hp Ferrari? Up to you.

rigid: Everyone knows Toyota is only using it for durability check, or maybe you can tell me why right behind LF-A is a Porsche GT3 , and total of (5) BMW M3 are behind as well. BTW, VW just recalls 13,500 DSG equipped cars, which proves new tech take time to break in, let alone when mating with supercar like GT-R. Wait, you do know the latter has more hp, right?

All I'm saying is that I'm waiting for the 2009 PDK Cayman S to replace my 3.

It would be ideal if Toyota score their first win in F1 in Japan and simultaneously release LF-A and IS-F Evo at the Tokyo Motor Show. Looking at their pace in the last race at Spa especially qualifying (Suzuka is very similar), i think it's not very tough.

I'm realy gonna be happy when toyota show's the LF-A at the Tokyo Motor Show. Because only a idoit can come up with a statement like

Thats because good cars take time to develop, and BMW hasn't made a good one in a long time!

Well unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to put off being 'Realy (lol) Happy' for quite some time.

Let's be honest here - This is a car, not the friggin' space station, so there's no excuse for Toyota to be taking this long to get the product into consumer garages. N O N E!

As for your comment about BMW, they have made several very good cars lately, and a couple of Outstanding Ones As Well, so maybe you should just get the 'L' (as in Lexus) out of here before you embarrass yourself even more.

Come on. Just because you know nothing about developing really good cars that are all new doesn't mean you can go bashing companys. When starting with a completely new vehicle with all parts completely new it just takes a while to get it all right.

It is always surprising how many "automotive enthusiasts" are so clueless when it comes to the "automotive" part of that phrase. Of course it takes time to develop cars. It takes YEARS, not months. You all think companies just start designing and then magically make a car appear? It takes time to engineer, test, retest, retest, engineer some more, retest, engineer some more, design, redesign, and redesign some more before an actual product hits the streets. 5 years for the development of a car is about on average with how long it takes most other luxury makes to design a new car. Mercedes spent 5 years developing the current S-Class. BMW spent 4 years on the new 7-Series. Lexus themselves spent 5 years developing the new LS, so why would they spend even less time developing a premium GT race car? They showed it at car shows to gauge public reaction to their current development stages, it didn't necessarily mean that the car was ready.

Why do I even have to explain any of this?

A BMW M3 Sport Evolition from the early 90's? That was about 20 years ago. Try a valid arguing point that is a little more recent and not from a history class.

My point is that most people today, maybe in my age group (28) 20-30's relates Evolution with the Mitsubishi Lancer. Better known as simply the Evo. So for another car to drop the Evolution name makes me automatically think of that (in modern times) and not an early 90's version of the M3.

Maybe they should call it the Lexus IS-F Evolution Post BMW Edition?

And you can't talk like the LF-A is still on a computer screen being designed. It's very close to being unveiled and Toyota has kept a lot of wraps on it cause they want to get it right. Same reason they kept wraps on the IS-F. Even though that was not perfect, it still is contending fairly well in the market.

I'm not a fanboy or a Bratwurst head, just voicing my opinion. As for BMW, they should get off the let's make an M version of everything, create an SUV smaller than an X3 (X1) boat and maybe work on bringing back the M1 or 8-series.

funny how the lexus story turned into a BMW love affair with Lexus bashing. They can't even make a car without the BMW lames getting high horsed saying their M3 is better than something that hasn't even come out yet. I guess they're so sporty and all they had to drop out of F1. But seems as if toyota is still there. Evolution is a name they came out with because it's an evolution of the current IS F, it isn't the particular name of the car. It probably won't have a fixed rear wing and it would probably be much less than 150K. I would say it's a car to compete with the M3's lighter version which should bow sooner or later. The one with the carbon fiber roof like the last generation M3. But I would guess more body panels made of it since the current M3 already has a Carbon roof. And this story has been out on 7tune.com for over a week now. Where has autospies been?

BMW has taken the same car and stuffed a bigger engine and some turbochargers in it. What's so hard about that? Hardly revolutionary.

That's USD equivalent in Japan. Their cars cost more than ones over here (i.e. $45,000 V6 Camaro).

Well, currently both Toyota teams have significant leads decent leads over BMW. 5th and 6th aren't much to brag about but its still better than what BMW can muster.
Also, I believe the last race is the first where BMW did well and everybody else did bad. I'll lean towards consistency and think BMW will remain near the bottom for the rest of the season.

How typical of Autospies for an article about a Lexus turning into shitfest. For a brand that supposedly lacks interest, they surely generate plenty of thread action.

Back to the actual topic at hand, this car should be fast enough, although a bigger increase in horsepower would be welcome. And the price probably is wrongly converted from the Yen.

lexsucks this is to you, when BMW can make their own team and not have help from an outside source i.e. williams and sauber, their wins are only for an engine supplier, taking that into account Toyota could win if they supplied Red Bull or Brawn for that matter. BMW piles in cash and their engines to lesser teams with good aerodynamics and take the credit for it. And as I recall BMW sauber won only once, and BMW williams was closer to 10, over the period of 5 years. Look at when Honda was an engine supplier, they won many races with a McLaren chassis. So are we going to say that Honda is the superior F1 team when they don't even exist in F1 anymore? And like other people said here, had the IS F been a BMW and this been it's first attempt it would have been hailed as a really good performer, but since it's Lexus it sucks. The only thing that sucks here is peoples bias remarks towards a company that does nothing but have reliability issues and premium costs.
