With the rising of the eco trend among consumers and the global economic crisis, automotive carmakers have begun to offer less expensive and more economical entry-level versions for several vehicles in their line-ups.
Take the German medium diesel saloon class for example. Audi had introduced a 120 hp version as an entry-level model for the diesel A4 range. BMW did the same and brought the 115 hp 316d model to the market. Mercedes-Benz follows suit with the introduction of the new 120 hp C180 CDI model. Notably, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class C180 CDI has the same 2.1 liter engine from its bigger brothers, but the carmaker has electronically downtuned it to generate 120 HP.
