2010 Mercedes E-Class Spied Yet Again

It may still be well over a year until we know for sure what the next generation Mercedes E-Class will look like. But today, our spy photographer has taken pictures of a prototype of the codenamed W212 project close to Mercedes' test base at the Nurburgring.

For the 2010 model year the Mercedes E-Class is likely to drop its Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) in favour of a conventional brake system with high-tech features such as wet-weather disc wiping and wheel-selective cornering brake control. Top of the range models such as the AMG series may have optional ceramic-composite brakes.

Wasn't the 'sensotronic' brake control pitched at the mid-cycle refresh of the current generation and replaced with a conventional hydralic system?

I think 'sensotronic' only current exists in the Maybach and SL-series.

The only thing that would get me exited about the E is if it had the same front seats as currently in the S. The entire Mercedes product line should have the unique adjustments of the S-class seats. That should be the most important value that the brand promises.

IMO, the current E-Class is the most beautiful car MB has ever made. I wonder how they will improve on it.

I agree with Wimmer--the 500K is easily the most beautiful Merc ever.

Ah, ok. :-)

Here are my top 3 Benzes.

1) 1934-1936 500SK Spezial Roadster
2) 1930 770 "Großer Mercedes"
3) 1975-1985 W123 E-Class

The rest are the infamous 300SL Gullwing and Roadster, W108 S-Class (1965-1972) and the W116 S-Class(1972-1980) and a few others which I can't list now since I've got to walk my dog! LOL

Wimmer that is exactly what I would have written - plus the Pagoda SL though.

While I admire the current E-Class as a stately and polished styling exercise, my favorite is the previous generation Bruno Sacco-designed SL.

i prefer 90's SL, 90's S, 300SL gullwing, W124 500E, W123 300CD.

Oh yeah the 90's SL too - but only after the facelift in 1995/1996. I hated that lower-body plastic side cladding.

Or the 2 tone paint, whatever it was. It became a cleaner look anyway.

Nothing offensive about the current model, but this does nothing for me. Bigger version of the C-Class - fine, but nothing special. IMO, the E Class peaked with the 1986-1995 model (W? help me out here, Wimmer). Strikingly modern, a bold step forward compared to its predecessor (which was and is a classic). The cartoonish and overly wedgy shape and weak C-pillar design is what bothers me most.

W124 E-Class 1985-1996 (estate until 1997). ;-)

You know me, I am a W123 (1975-1985) guy all the way!

The sideline and trunk shape makes it look like bigger version of new C-class.

I just hope this will not happen.

300SL Gullwing to me is the most attractive and IMO the most desirable of all MB's. I think that after I become President I will just pony up and get one.

Gullwing for me too. Mercedes should make a modern-retro Gullwing with current-technology drivetrain and suspension but with an I6 engine instead of one of those inherently-out-of-balance 90-degree V6 engines they now have.

I still have an original nineteen-fifties 300SL brochure that I drool over now and then.

something about this hints of W140 S-class...then again it's still pretty well hidden.
