2010 Toyota Prius Spied
Toyota’s third-generation petrol-electric Prius hybrid is expected to make its world debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January next year before going on sale in Japan and the U.S. in April. The changes planned for the new model will be minimal, as these latest spy images of a near-production-ready prototype reveal.

Major differences compared to the current model will include a slightly larger body, a more spacious interior and a more upmarket feel. The car will sport a distinct nose and tail design, and both its wheelbase and track will be increased. Designers are determined to ensure the new model will be instantly recognizable as a Prius.

Boring gets a redesign.

The rear kind of reminds me of the CTS coupe with the hard edges.

All the negative thoughts and lack of intelligent reviews on the Prius show a shortage of understanding the vehicle and what Toyota is trying to do.

You may not care for the looks, but the engineering is incredible!

What engineering? All they did was make a bigger car with the old tech. They might have updated it a bit here and there but same car. how about making it the same size and making it get alot better mileage.

Or...just maybe they should figure out a way to manufacture their batteries without shipping them across the Atlantic 3 times before they even make it in the cars. Hybrids are for hypocritical hippies. If you want something fuel efficient with less of an impact on the environment, go diesel,,.or, for you hippies out there, diesel hybrid :-) If you drive anywhere othere than an urban city center, Prius’ actually get worse gas mileage than many other new diesel and gas vehicles in highway and aggressive driving conditions…take for example the recent top gear episode that put a Prius and an M3 head-to-head around a track….Prius = 17 MPG…V8 M3 = 19 MPG. That being said, the Prius is still revolutionary for its time, the problem is that most other vehicles have long since caught up and in many cases offer similar mileage, yet while retaining classic styling and modern day sports car performance. Take the Audi CLUBSPORT Quattro TDI for example, 4 cylinder diesel, 224 HP, 331.90 lb/ft torque, 0-60 in 6.6 sec. and 41 MPG combined…if you were to combine that with a small electric motor for city driving w/regenerative braking, now you’re talking revolutionary!!!

What a retared thing to say...try telling that to the guy who's filling up every 4 weeks instead of two and going out 4 times a week to a have a nice dinner instead of once a month because of the money he's saving on fuel.

I guess if SAVING MONEY and not giving it away to the oil companies is a "politica" statement, then even better. It's a nice way to say F_U to all the idiots in SUVs and trucks.

Good for Toyota.

The irony is that hybrid and small car drivers save SUV and truck drivers money! How? By reducing overall fuel demand, which lowers prices. If you replaced every Prius on the road today with a Hummer, I bet within a few weeks prices would go up at least a few cents. Simple economics.

the vast majority of prius drivers i know are total hypocrites. same with lexus hybrid drivers. they want to be PERCEIVED as green. meanwhile...

they live in huge houses.
leave the AC running all the time.
have heated pools.
leave the water running when they shave.
leave the lights on when they leave a room.
use disposable diapers, plates, paper towels, you name it...

meanwhile, they're saving the world. one 438hp LS600 at at time.

thanks, but i'll just concentrate on all the things mentioned above and be a hell of alot more "green" while driving my BMW.

Would you guys at least give Toyota the satisfaction to release the most fuel efficient car on the road?

Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Nissan, Chevy, etc......All them can't even release nothing uglier or better that gets this kind of mpg....

Trophy goes to Toyota.......They are the most innovative auto company in the world..

reply to this comment
komododavekomododave - 7/30/2008 2:33:39 PM
-1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
You're right! Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Nissan and Chevy can't release "nuthin" uglier because it would take an actual effort to design a car uglier than the Prius.
As for innovation, the Prius has had the same hybrid system since the 90's. Innovation is about bringing out new and exciting ideas and products. A ten year old design is not innovative and an ugly look that's been out for years already is not new.
I will give them the MPG trophy....reluctantly.

atomicbriatomicbri - 7/31/2008 8:32:10 AMView My AgentSpace
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
They only get the MOG trophy here in the states because in the US they can't sell all the different types of diesels like they do in Europe and Japan that get even better mileage than the Prius. So until that time, people can think Toyota has the best MPG. I bet my money on the next Honda Prius fighter (though I am afraid it will look just as ugly)

Unfortunately you are right, this is the most fuel efficient car that you can buy right now, kudos to Toyota! When you compare the Prius to PML's mini Cooper it is black and white! 640bhp VS the Prius's 109hp and PML's car drives for four hours on a single charge where the Prius drives maybe a few feet before the gas motor has to help it along. I can't wait until Toyota comes out with something to compete with PML's car. And lets hope that the Prius has improved the crash standards, that is because I would consider buying a Prius in the future because it is still the most fuel efficient car that you can buy today unfortunately. Unfortunately not cutting edge.

There about 70 different cars sold in Europe which match or beat the mpg of a prius and some of these cars are bigger and faster than the prius!

list 10 that goes faster than prius but with better mpg, not need to mension the interior space.

don't forget prius is rated 64 mpg in euro cycle.

and i won't want to point out that 41 mpg on that 520D is on diesel, which cost 20% more than a 87 grade gas that prius uses to get that 40 mpg.

let's say when you buy a car you drive it for 100000 miles. Before you replace it. Let's say you bought a prius and get 55mpg in mixed driving. That works out to 1818 gallons of fuel over the life of the car. Now compare that to a regular non hybrid car that gets 35 mpg. The non-hybrid economy car would use 2857 gallons of fuel over 100000 miles. This is a difference of 1039 gallons, or at todays prices about $4156. Chances are, the difference in purchase price of the two cars will be much more than $4156. So you are better off buying the economy car.

what? I'm deboosted for pointing out the economics? Yeah, I know people who buy this are generally more concerned about the environment, but there are also a lot of people who look at hybrids to save on gas money. The unfortunate truth is that even at $4 a gallon gas, it doesn't make sense to buy a hybrid to save money.

The prius is the most efficient car that you can buy here today but it could be a lot more efficient and way more power if PML made it. The Prius is very disappointing when you compare it to what we could have! PML's car is more than 3 times better on gas and it has 640BHP! This is a fact so how can all of you praise this POS like it is cutting edge teck?

Who said it wasn't broken? It was first made by Toyoya to advertise that they are green and now we need something better on gas so it must improve a lot! Better MPG and crash standards are currently poor.

The Prius consumes no less fuel than any other Jap or Korean 1.5 liter engine mated to a CVT. Wonder why it doesn't sell in countries where small engines are the norm ?

Let's see...diesels offer three times the amount of performance and require a lot less fuel than the POS Prius(Kia for snobs). No wonder everybody with a brain sees the advantage of having a diesel vs the tin cans with electric bicycle motor made in Japan.
