The Environmental Protection Agency issued its annual rankings for the most fuel-efficient models.

Coming out on top is Toyota Motor Corp.’s 2010 hybrid Prius at 48 miles per gallon/highway and 51 mpg/city. Unsurprisingly, the Japanese carmakers again dominated the list, with eight of their gasoline/electric hybrid models in the top 10.

However, Ford Motor Co. managed to deserve a mention since it has four of its vehicles on the list as well. Ford’s top hybrid performers include the Fusion sedan and Escape small SUV as well as the Milan midsize sedan and Mariner SUV models sold under the Mercury brand. A common engineering platform is shared by Ford’s Fusion and Milan , same as with Escape and Mariner.
