2011 Chevrolet Beat - Spy Shots

This is a test mule of the Chevrolet Beat city car, which is expected to arrive in Asia and Europe -- but not North America -- sometime in 2011.

The Beat will replace the Daewoo-sourced Matiz in GM's lineup.

Unlike the Beat concept show at the 2007 New York Auto Show, this vehicle is a five-door instead of a three-door, with the front doors being shortened. Wheelbase is said to be 93.5 in, and overall length 141.5 in

The Beat will be offered with the choice of a 1.0- or 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine mated to either a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission.

The Beat has not been certified for the U.S. because the automaker doesn't think that U.S. customers will be willing to buy a car smaller than the subcompact Chevrolet Aveo. An all new Aveo, with sedan and hatchback bodystyles, and claimed 44mpg, is currently under development.

The people at Chevrolet are knuckleheads...they should be doing everything and anything to help the US market before they help the rest of the world...they are hurting so bad right now...I think the Beat would do fine in the US market new fresh look for them...and I think Chevy has to be one of the worst companies when it comes to launching a new vehicle...The Camaro was introduced so long ago and we still have to wait another year for it to hit the road while the Challenger was in the auto show and out in the road within a year...and now same with the Beat I first saw the beat at a carshow 2 years ago and still have to wait 2 more just for it to hit Europe....

The Beat will be much smaller than any 4 seater on sale in the US now or in the future. I honestly believe the market isn't ready for something this small yet. The Aveo, Yaris, Fit, and Ford Fiesta will be a whole segment larger than this.

Knucklehead logic: anything smaller than a Hummer H3 is unsafe and should be banned from the US along with motorcycles.

My response: You can have my sub-compact when you pry it from my warm fuel-saving fingers. That plus a check for the fair market value.
