2011 May Be The Year Of The El Camino?
There have been confirmed reports that GM is interested in this vehicle and, given that the car is sold in Australia in a sporty V8 guise, it's possible that it might provide GM the opportunity to dust off the legendary El Camino nameplate. Wheels magazine reported the following in its June issue: "Ever since GM's global product boss Bob Lutz became interested in rebadging Holdens for North America, there has been speculation – much of it from Lutz himself – that the Ute could work as a reborn Chevrolet El Camino. As recently as February, outgoing Holden MD Denny Mooney was talking up the Ute export program. "I can tell you we've been working on that for over a year (and) the Ute would be unique in the US. It has a fair likelihood (of happening)." Read Article

Its a pick-up alternative.

With cars all looking the same, owning a Elcamino would be original.

I think its a goog idea!

Don't ask me why, but El Camino was one of GM's cars that I liked lol, again don't ask me why.

I like this one too.

Those things ( the original ElCamino's ) were nothing more than station wagons with 2/3's of the roof removed and a box formed in where the rear seats used to be. They had to use the station wagon frames because they were much stronger . There is plenty of those types of vehicles running around today. It looks like they are reinventing the wheel ,again.

Please, please don't devoted more resources to make this thing in the US (or for the US). Remember the SSR....it'll be the same story......not because it too was a truck/car mish-mash, but because it sucked and virtually no one wanted it (and it was pricey). Maybe there are 10 or 20 thousand people who would buy it, but that's not worth it.

If GM is going to recreate the el camino, it should use the Chevrolet impala as the foundation. Create a station wagon version and cut off the roof. Leave on the second set of doors. It would get 31 mpg on the highway and be a nice addition to their auto lineup.

The Avalanche is already an El camino! Why do they need another car based truck? The box is awfully small in this new one, If Bill Clinton owned this 30 years ago he would have no conquest stories to relay to the world!

Looks much better than the original but retains its lo-life appeal. It's a speeding ticket magnet. It would have a practical use as a travel machine for a couple as the covered truck bed would hold plenty of luggage. Unforunately, I know my wife would not be seen dead in it.
