2011 Nissan GT-R Spec V
Here in the U.S., the hype continues to build in anticipation of the July on-sale date of the 2009 Nissan GT-R. But in Japan, where the car has been on sale since December 2007, it is the Spec V—on sale this December—that has buyers excited.

In North America, be prepared to wait a couple model years for the performance Spec V, which will be lighter, faster, and pricier than the conventional sports car. We expect to learn more of the specifics at the 2008 Paris auto show in September, but heavy use of carbon fiber coupled with some decontenting reportedly will shed anywhere from 220 to 330 pounds. Visually, the Spec V has a new front splitter and tweaked rear spoiler. A modified suspension sits in between, and the car has distinctive spoke wheels.

Wow, the spec-v is expected to run the Ring in about 7:25?

What car is the current record holder for the fastest time in the Ring?

NISSAN won't go through all this trouble just to save 4 seconds.

I believe it will be more like 7:20.

If the Nissan GT-R V-Spec have 550+hp and is 220 to 330 pounds lighter than the standard GT-R. It will definitely run the famous German track in 7 minutes or less.

0-60 will be 2.7 to 3.0 seconds for sure. Godzilla has return and has claim it throne back. What a Beast....!

thats a bit optimistic. 0-16 more like 3.1-3.2 and probab shave ~15 sec off the time...

well thats my completely un-scientific guess anyway...

UNDER 7 MIN? take your head out of your ass as take a breath, you're turning blue...

There has only been ONE production car to ever break the 7 min mark on the Nürburgring (Nordschleife)track.. and that car was a 650kg Radical SR8... 6:55. And at over twice the weight and 29 seconds later is the LF-A @ 1360kg ..

Adding a hundred horsepower and dropping 350lbs WILL NOT IN ANY WAY COME CLOSE TO BREAKING THE 7 MIN mark..

We have Ferraris and Lambo edging out each other by points of a second and YOU think shedding 350lbs and adding a hundred horsepower will drop 30 seconds off the total lap time..... I've got some Florida swamp land to sell you.. prime real estate!!

Just noticed this link aswell...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschleife_fastest_lap_times

It shows the LF-A's time around the ring, and it also shows the new Nissan GTR V-spec's time around the track... both were "Unofficial time measured by bystanders at the track" so there's probably not too much fact to this but it shows the LF-A beating the V-Spec GTR by one second..

LF-A 7:24 and a 7:25 set out by the GTR- V-Spec on April 8th, 2008.

I do think Nissan will squeese enough out of the V-Spec to beat the LF-A, but 29 seconds.. keep dreaming!!

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and the The Bugatti Veyron are 31 and 29 seconds faster then the Honda NSX-R ... 30 seconds on the track is a completely different car, not some extra hp and shedding some weight.

Nissan achieved 7:38 on a partially wet track the first time the GT-R was officially recorded at the Nurburgring. And then Nissan achieved 7:29 on a dry track the second it was officially recorded at the Nurburgring. That's a 9 seconds difference owing to a dry track. What makes you think that reducing the weight by 300 pounds and giving the GT-R another 100 horsepower won't bring the Nurburgring time down to about 7 minutes or less?

So the newest skyline was brought about to show the rest of the automotive industry that nissan still has what it takes and consequently "call out" a few of the other monsters around town. And now they want to make it better? It's like giving giving godzilla steroids and caffeine. I'm ready to get spanked on the track.

Le Mans is this weekend - why won't Nissan be there so that they can show what they're made of just like Honda and Toyota do in F1.

STJ88 - "Its V-spec not spec V. It isn't a sentra!"

It is spec V, as in spec 5. Roman numerals...

Just kidding :)

I can't wait to see how many people smash this car up as it will have much higher limits than 99.9% of the people who drive it.

What more astounding is the fact that this can be an "everyday" car, even during the winter months or any months with poor road conditions. It can seat four, and has a generous trunk as well, it's a supercar for all people and all seasons!

Wow, very impressive. The GT-R already reigns supreme in my opinion, but the V-Spec is just going to absolutely rule!!

thisismyname,

look like you are the one that need to pull your head out of your own ass not me. Remember how everyone doubted the standard GT-R performance. When they did the test it completely destory pretty much all the supercars outthere. Like Lamb, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi R8, you name it.

Please pull your head out of your own ass and just admit Asian can make a car that is just as good or better than the European.

Sorry, the GTR is all about low gearing to get good acceleration to about 90 and then the Porsches, Ferraris Lambos, Vettes walk all over it. And the Spec V will be so expensive, coupled with dealers markup and scarcity that it will be priced like one of the premier brands (which it will never be). Read the latest Car & Driver - the GTR is slower than a 997tt and not as much fun to drive as an M3. A way overhyped car

Cough.. I drive an asian car....

I never once stated the V-Spec would loose against any car...

I love Godzilla... would like to see what Acura has to bring to the table before I would crown it the king of the "ring"... or even asian super car.

What I stated was dropping 350lbs and adding a hundred horsepower will not reduce your Nürburgring (Nordschleife) track time by 30 seconds.. thus the GTR V-Spec will STILL be an incredible car, but it will not break the 7 min barrier.

According to the link the
7:29.03 Nissan GTR weighs 1740 kg 480hp,
7:25 Nissan GTR V-Spec weighs 1590 kg with 551 PS (558.6 hp)
7:24 Lexus LF-A weighs 1360 kg and 552 PS (559.6 hp)

I think the V-spec will beat the 7:24 mark...even though it is heavier than the LF-A. The V-Spec could possibly pass the 7:20 mark, very very unlikely under 7:10, thus never break the 7 min mark with THIS GTR V-spec..

Using Car and Driver's comparison of the 997tt/M3/GTR is a quick way to lose credibility... unless of course you are like them and value rear seat comfort and trunk space over performance.

Everyone and their grandma knows that Car & Driver loves anything BMW or Honda. I bet if you put a blue and white roundel or a H emblem on a tard Car & Driver will go hog wild over it.

Gotta agree with Car & Driver's unrelenting worship of all things BMW and Honda.

Using that ONE comparison (one article doesn't even qualify as a minority) to prove that the the GT-R is over rated is like finding one person in a thousand who agrees with you and using that person to prove the matter settled.
