335Ci: BMW power for all seasons
For BMW buyers who wish to soak in as much sun as possible this summer without losing the marque’s hallmark performance and handling, the company has an offering to fit the bill to a tee. The German auto maker is no stranger to engineering convertible cars of the highest quality, and after such icons as the 330Ci Cabriolet and the Z4, one might have wondered how such winning packages could be improved upon. However, in BMW AG’s typical perfectionist tradition, they have once again raised the bar with an extremely well engineered and desirable addition; the 335Ci Cabriolet.

Featuring the much vaunted 3.0 litre straight-six motor with Valvetronic(TM) and variable geometry turbine technology, the 335Ci Cabriolet immediately guarantees driving thrills as well as a rewarding open-top experience. The fact that this mill has already scooped some coveted international awards, including the Engine of the Year accolade, serves to underscore BMW’s long-standing reputation for delivering quality and high performance motoring experiences at great value. For the South African market, the motor made its first appearance in the 335Ci Coupe, and has just been launched in the E90 335i (making that car “the most desirable BMW on the road”, according to a reputable local motoring publication). With a power output spec. of 225Kw, the 335Ci Cabriolet dispatches the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds, galloping on to a limited top speed of 250km/h. A notable point about the motor is the linear torque delivery. Thanks to the advanced variable geometry turbo charging, the engine pulls cleanly from low revs, piling on pulling power with no discernible turbo lag. The six speed gearbox is a marvel, swapping cogs smoothly via Formula One-style paddles, or in conventional automatic mode, and it features various settings to suit each driving style and mood. Fuel consumption is a miserly (in this category) 9,9 litres per 100km.

I like the M-Technic style front end in that picture, makes the car look like the E46 Performance Package crossed with the upcoming 650i.

Not quite for "all seasons". Its more like for "only dry pavement". No amount of electronic gizmos can substitute for AWD traction.

I agree why not just make a cabrio version of the 335xi coupe

actually winter tires with the traction system of BMW will out perform all season tires on AWD.

Yes, read any car mag tire comparisons, there is now substitute for snow tires.

bull ... I base this on experience in this business with BMW for 12 years and there have been articles to back it up also. Secondly, BMW's traction control system is the best in the business. AKA. Dynamic Stability Control

The RWD BMW will have better handling characteristics with snow tires, versus the XI with All-seasons, but I can guarantee you, I don't care how god-like your bimmer is, if it's RWD and the snow is fresh, it won't be climbing any steep hills unless you're in reverse or you have AWD; you might make it, if you leave all-seasons on the front, otherwise, all your car will be doing is plowing. The grip of snow tires in the front of a RWD car, makes it harder to push the car through.

what steep hills are we talking about? If we are talking about the Rocky Mountains, then one knows that even with AWD you have to put chains on your tires due to risk involved. That is because at over a 3% grade going downhill on snow does not matter if you have AWD, FWD & RWD... In normal driving a RWD with winters vs a AWD with all season, then the RWD will perform better. Tires are the key. always will be...

I'm referring to steep hills that are encountered in places such as neighborhoods. Obviously the snow tires stomp the allseasons, as they have the widest contact patch, to ensure better traction. I'm still driving with my V rated Goodyear GW3s on my car; I've had them on for over 2 years and still get good traction in the winter.

With a RWD though, you can't just put any snow tire on. You can't go buy a set of Blizzaks and expect to conquer all, because those are made more for 4WD and maybe FWD. The Goodyears are made for any car, but work perfectly on a RWD. I can only imagine what it would be like to have the GW3s on a BMW 335Xi...too bad the car is a bit of a porker.
