7:29 Nurburgring lap time for Nissan GT-R
If you thought the GT-R’s previous recorded lap time of 7m 38s at the Nurburgring was shockingly fast get ready to be stunned again as Nissan has confirmed today that its latest supercar has achieved a blistering lap time of just 7m 29 seconds - making it one of the fastest ever production road cars to attack the ‘Ring.

The lap times were recorded on April 16 and 17 and were for a stock-standard base specification GT-R fitted with the same Japanese market tires as the cars in showrooms.

The car was driven by GT-R chief test driver Tochio Suzuki.

I deboosted you for the luck comment. To think that the Engineers from either of those companies need "luck" to compete with a GT-R is nothing short of ludicrous. First think about the car that the GT-R used as a benchmark...then think about the cars that Ferrari, Lambo, or Porsche uses as benchmarks...guess what they didn't need to because they were the benchmarks. How much luck can any one of those companies need to throw technology at a car to make it "faster". And I think I need to mention that certain people don't necessarily want a all wheel drive supercar. If Nissan was so good then why not build a rear wheel drive variation to compete with say Ferrari. Nissan got very clever with the GT-R only because they had time, money, and a benchmark. Now let's see how long they hold onto the "crown"

call me crazy but my guess is most owners of Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, and similar cars costing 4x what the GTR does aren't really going to care if the GTR laps the Ring faster than their cars. They're driving Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

i am not calling you crazy Jrob. Noone buying a Ferrari, Lambo, Aston Martin are really going to car that the GTR is faster .. Has nothing to do with that when you have that kind of money. It is all about style and ego. The GTR has no style. It is fast and commend Nissan on building such a powerhouse for a car, but that is it. I have seen it in person. It is not an attractive car at all. I would never buy it.

They need no luck - but where will fanboys like you find the $90K to actually drive a GT-R (maybe you can find the 70K and no dealer markup). I guess there's always Playstation

I guess Ferrari and Lambo finally has the benchmark now.

Their engineers can no longer slack and they better start to hire some good marketing people.

Porsche will most likely be the one to respond because the GT-R specifically targeted the 911 Turbo...also an all wheel drive car. Ferrari probably has no concern for the GT-R because it already builds the most potent rear wheel drive cars ever built, which I might add Nissan can't touch...which is why they resorted to all wheel drive for ultimate performance. As I said before not everyone wants all wheel drive performance cars loaded up with gyros, torque splitters and super sophisticated vehicle dynamic controls that does all the hard work for you!

oooohhh..."rung what you brung"...sounds like the opening line for Need for Speed 4. Really what cartoon did you get that from?

So okay, I'll play along since it's all about "run what you brung"...currently Ferrari dominates Formula1 . So let's get Nissan to "bring" their GT-R Spec V and Ferrari to "bring" their F2008/Type056 and run a few laps. Since this has nothing to do with fairness and it's all about top speed.

The sooner people accept the new gtr as a all time supercar the better Nissan has already proven they can more than keep up with the supercars out their with their astonishing R34 GT-R and four wheel drive is faster than two wheel drive in corners which is why nissan made it 4WD...TO BE THE QUICKEST IT CAN BE and if porche is to stupid to realize 4WD is better than 2WD than their a bunch of idiots and have to accept only to appear as a little spot in the GT-R's rear view mirror.

This car is freaking cool, I admit it. However, comparing the GTR to the other super cars out there, this is only going to hurt nissan in the end. This car will go down as a legend, but they wont be able to pull the same trick twice. I'm not the only person who knows that without the trick tranny, all wheel drive and its twin turbo motor, this car is only mortal. You take its tricks away, like the sports car racing organizations like SCCA and such will, then this car is going to choke on dust. Im glad that this is on the street, but lets be realistic, if we keep comparing it to cars 4 times the price, its bound to be one upped by a company with nothing to lose. I think the ferrari comparisons will cease once the f460 and the new enzo replacement comes out, both have the DSG transmission that the GTR has, and Im sure Ferarri doesnt like their dickmobiles being insulted.

Thats impressive... Those are really impressive numbers...

Though I do not think that Porsche will "respond" because its not in their interest to... And Ferraris were never really officially tested at the ring, so they have their own proving grounds...

Ferrari has nothing to prove. They build cars for style as much as performance. Also they are very few race series that allow all wheel drive cars with turbo engines. That's why Ferrari doesn't build those type of cars. Ferrari cars are built for racing and that means conforming to racing requirements and specifications which can be very stringent. Nissan just wanted to build the fastest car possible, no holds barred. If they want to prove how good they are then maybe they should build a rear wheel drive only car with a normally aspirated engine and race against Ferrari for ultimate bragging rights.

1. One wants status symbol
2. They want to go 400+
3. They want 1000+ HP
4. They want Luxury and Comfort
5. They want quad-turbos
6. They want exclusivity
7. They want a Bugatti
8. ...

Should I keep going? Now thats just a dumb statement...

I didnt say that Ferrari was going to make a 4 wheel drive car, what I said was that its foolish to compare a 90k car to a 250k car. Its not a fair comparison. They should compare the car to cars in its price category, like the Z06, or the Porsche 911. Also, because there are very few organizations that allow this type of car, that is, an awd turbo car, that this is going to hinder the car when it does compete. It did terrific at the SuperGT in Japan, but it needs to enter a world championship race like the LeMans or something to that effect. Also, if we want to deliberate price vs performance, those Radical track cars arent that expensive, and we know they can handle like no ones business.

"without the trick tranny, all wheel drive and its twin turbo motor, this car is only mortal"

appreciate for what it is. It's a great road going sports car. Whose performance is second to none but with a reasonable and affordable price.
The car is ahead of it's time for what performance it offers for so little money.

GT-R according to me is very near to perfection.

That's pretty damn impressive. Now the ultimate question is, will the GT-R run with the new vehicles coming out which has more power?
1. ZR1 (630hp)
2. Viper (600hp)
3. 997 GT2 RS (550hp)
4. M3 CLS (493hp)
5. LF-A (500hp)

"But I think AWD will prevail in the end, should be a great fight."

Really...so why wouldn't AWD prevail?...I thought 4 wheel drive was better than 2...I don't know maybe my physics is off!...I can definetly see the fairness in putting AWD car against RWD cars. What I find impressive is that this AWD car is not much faster than it's RWD counterparts...it's faster...but not that much faster...don't believe me..try to do your 0-60 without launch control.

Damn, I was thinking that 7:25 for the V spec might be a stretching the truth too far, but now even the regular GTR with JDM spec tires has posted 7:29, So it wasn't a fluke, if the GTR can do 7:29, the V spec can easily do 7:25 without breaking sweat, actually reckon it might go even quicker. Seems like Nissan has been almost moderate and conservative about this car, I know that all the car companies say that their product is the ultimate sports car with unmatchable spec and dynamics in the class, but really upto now what the GTR has done, it has made all of Nissan's press release praises look almost skimpy. This car has defied all of our expectations and belief, and i have a very strong hunch that the V spec GTR will make us wet ourselves in amazement.

Most people think that Ferrari, Lamborghini and the likes need not worry about the GT-R because they target different markets. But I personally think they are wrong. Those exotic car manufacturers (ferrari, lambo, etc...) became exotic because they made fast cars. They were the best in the business and they became prestigious because they were the fastest cars around and to be able to maintain that prestige, they need to stay on top in that world of speed. And no matter how prestigious a company is, if it just rests on its reputation to make its sales, it won't stay on top. Take Bugatti for example, when it was bought by the VW Group, it was almost bankrupt and to be able to get back to where it is today, it had to make the world's fastest production car.
And for those who think that Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche are not worried by the latest lap times of the GT-R, you could not be more wrong. Those companies are aware that the GT-R is a threat to them and they are going to react to that threat. It is because of such similar threats that Porsche came out with an SUV, Lamborghini came out with the Gallardo and now Ferrari is working on a new entry-level model. They need to adapt to the market and attract new customers.
I'm not saying that the future F430 buyer will suddenly change his mind and get a GT-R cause I don't believe that these two cars are competing for the same customers. But Ferrari should be worried cause now Nissan has the technology to challenge him and in the future, Nissan could use that technology in a better looking car which might sell under a completely different name. Take Pagani for example. That company was founded in 1992 and now its challenging the Enzo and the Murcielago. Imagine Nissan doing the same thing and creating a brand new car with a totally eccentric and beautiful design and sell it under a totally new brand name while using the technology of the GT-R. That car would steal some market shares just like the Zonda did.
So to sum up, I'd say that although the GT-R is not a direct competitor to the big names in the business, it should nonetheless worry the manufacturers as it is an indication of what other manufacturers are capable of doing.

yep you have right . nissan and other japanese manufactures were doing very good sports cars in the past also but they were restricted to 280hp and becouse of that they don`t have prestige and weren`t a supercars e.g. first nsx , first skyline gt-r - great cars but only 280hp .
and now they aren`t restricted .

Can anyone confirm (as I have seen stated elsewhere) that this run was not a standing start like the 7:38 that is commonly quoted for the GT-R. I am curious because while 7:29 is extremely fast if it was done with a 'flying start' then it kinda isn't fair to compare that time with other car who used a standing start.
