With Audi’s RS6 pumping out 580hp thanks to its force-fed V10 engine BMW is tipped to be testing a prototype of its M5 saloon with a pair of blowers attached, possibly for a midlife upgrade. Several tuning companies have already proven that a turbocharged M engine can do wonders, and one such company is G-Power.

The German tuner has a twin-turbo version of the M5 with around 730hp on tap with just 0.5bar of boost pressure. That’s close to a 50% increase on the standard M5’s 507hp output and that car is by no means slow. Read Article

Wow that's just crazy. 730BHP in a sedan.

BTW Brabus V12 Biturbo Rocket also produces 730BHP and i remember they made a new speed record rencentley by putting that engine in a Maybach 57.

Holy Crap is right. This BMW is the coolest. I would rather have an M3 Coupe though.

This isn't going to happen, guys.

I want a 500hp M5, but I just wouldn't want a 730hp M5. Too much power. Yes, there is such a thing. The current M5 is (barely) usable on a daily basis... this just wouldn't be.

Instead, how about lowering the weight of the current model and adding about 20hp? That's what would really give the RS6 a fight.

Meh. HP is just a number.

One name. Hennessy Viper Venom (1000hp, around 410km/h).

Another name, GT-R V-Spec II Nür (approx 600hp). It was running 300km/h 5 years ago (minus the electrical problems) with 4 fewer cylinders and 2 litres less displacement.

A properly massaged 1994 3.0L Supra Turbo will nearly hit 300km/h.

I'd be surprised if this car was any faster than the normal M5.

Personally though, all this power is pointless but I'm sure it comes in real handy while you're waiting at the drive-thru.

I'll take a smaller engine with lower hp that outperforms these gas guzzlers anyday.
