9ff GT9 overtakes Bugatti Veyron and reaches 409 km/h
On April 10th, the 9ff GT9 accomplished its mission: the vehicle reached a top speed of 409 km/h and overtook the Bugatti Veyron on the race track in Papenburg. Although the difference is not big, just 3 km (the Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 406 km/h), the 9ff GT9 became now the fastest street-legal sports car available. With a limited production of just 20 units the car aims to become even more exclusive than the Veyron. No words about the price for the moment but according to our sources this will be over 500,000 euros. Read Article

Yes, for whatever reason, there is a fake cardboard wheel on the back. Maybe its the secret to their success? maybe it helped them get that 3 km/h advntage?

These "wheelcovers" have been around in F1 since 2007
when Ferrari first used them at the turkish GP.

The device is designed to increase brake cooling as well as helping aerodynamics, which is kind of important if your goal is to break top speed records.

Yeah. But does it look or feel as luxurious and stylus as the Veyron?

Exactly. And for 500K Euros it better have a rear end. I am assuming this is a unfinished prototype or test mule. Also I would opt out of the graphics. Still the acceleration Gs would put a big smile on my face.

if its 500,000 euro, it comes out to about $770,000, which yes is a few hundred thousand less then the Veyron, but nothing to write home about.

It's got to be a POS... as it's only half the price of a Veyron... :>)

It doesn't look street legal to me. At least not for American streets. There's not even a rear bumper on the car!

Its one of those "technical" production car that is street legal. And its really wrong to call these thing production, as they are just modified varients of existing cars.

I would still pick a Veyron...

This is a joke! it's a toy car that was launched from a cannon at 409km/hr!

They made a mess of it trying to glue that rear wheel on... so they just cut out the box it came in and got crafty with it :)

That pic just shows a mock up of a non-production car. IF you have the ENZO book you see the same thing...If you go on youtube and look at the videos for the 9ff GT9, you'll see that this car is not luxurious at all, and you'll see that this is damn race car for the streets, with 24 carat gold for cooling elements. I like the looks of this, and it has better shape than the Veyron. The car is also mid-engined ( I believe), and has a 4 liter turbo'd engine. 9ff founder used to work for Ruf, and then branched off. Even though < respect this, I like Ruf's CTR3 the best, which looks like a Cayman on 'roids.

They should have started with the Carrera GT, it looks better when you race it out.

It's crazy to see how hard they had to try just to barely top the Veyron's speed. That car is specifically built for the single goal of going that fast... We really are approaching the time that an end all top speed will be reached before people start moving into sport flying. There's really no reason to be on the ground at those speeds.

You seem to forget this is a very small company unlike the multibillion dollar VAG.

Definitely a Great accomplishment for this company, congratulation to them and their engineering team. But I would still buy the Bugatti Veyron over this Sportcar because of look and practicality.

Anybody can make the fastest car in the world. Doing everything better than Bugatti is what matters most. I rather take a great fast car than a uncomfortable fastest car in the world.

If I recall correctly, the Bugatti Veyron can only run at it's top speed for 30 minutes before it's tires have to be replaced. But not to worry - the gas will run out long before then.
