A lot more info: VW Passat four-door-coupe
Last week we brought you spy shots of a Mercedes CLS inspired, Passat four-door coupe. The car was caught somewhere in the southwest going under some hot weather testing. While not much information was available at that time, we went on hunt for more about the four-door-coupe from Volkswagen.

What we know: The Passat four-door coupe is expected to be powered by the same engine variants as the original Passat. Expected to come in as a 2009 model late next year, the Passat four-door coupe is expected to be priced between $35,000 to $45,000.

What we learned: The Volkswagen Passat four-door-coupe is ready for...

$35K+?? Forget about it!! I'll wait for a year and buy a pre-owned one in 1 year with 10000 miles and under $25K after its value depreciates & sinks like a rock.

Like you all tell me when I comment on car prices. 35K isn't soo bad. Have yall seen what cars cost these days. Hell I was on a VW lot last week and saw a 28K Jetta. The funny thing is that it was sitting right next to a 24K Passat.

People pay $35,000 to drive a cheaply built Lexus or Infiniti. Why would they not pay that amount for a luxurious VW? But then again, who can understand Japanese car fanatics.

The A7 will be double that price. You won't drive the similar car from Audi for the same money, never.

Star's post is the dumbest today. With all the ignorant jerk-offs around lately, that really is saying something. Congratulations!

Anyway, I always liked the idea of a sexier Passat. And I still do.

I just wish companies would stop using that antiquated name of "coupe". I know what the classical definition is, but in today's world "coupe" means two doors only.

It said between $35,000-$45,000 dollars, they got to be kidding right? just because they mimic the MB CLS designg does Not justify their price.

What next Kia making a car that resemble a Lambo Gallardo and than sales for $200,000 dollars, come on... You don't see Chrysler asking for $250,000 for their Chrysler 300C. Even thought it got it design from a Royce Roll's Phantom, do you?

Earth to VW, stop whatever is it you're smoking....and get back to reality. $35,000-$45,000 put it in the BMW, Audi, MB, Lexus, Acura and Infiniti range.

Hyundai is doing the same thing. It seems to be a trend lately...

Anyhow, the four-door coupe looks ok, but I'd much rather spend a bit more for an S4 or wait for the A7, which will be the REAL CLS competitor.

I'd take the Avalon over a VW any day - and when sales are in for the first full model year for the new VW in the US I'll bet Avalon sales dramatically exceed sales of this VW 4 door coupe.

In the US market where a single model such as the Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4 can [in some months] outsell the entire VW brand car and SUV line-up, the VW 4 door coupe will be largely ignored by real buyers.

Oops sorry the above posting was placed in error, it was supposed to be a reply to the comments of 610looper who stated that he'd take the VW over an Avalon, Maxima, Accord, Camry etc.

His provocative comments are lower down the list.

I personally drive a 2006 Passat 3.6, except it's not RWD, it's as good as other German brand in term of high speed thrill on the highway. I don't see why VW is not qualified to build 35K plus vehicle, they designed the Veyron, right?

i think this car looks odd, but i dont think the price is outlandish given todays prices. at 35,000 it is about as big as the 5 and, a6 but priced alot lower than the comparable equipped c class, or 3 series. and now adays camrys, accords, and other cars in that class can jump over 30 grand

First off, nobody in the U.S. even knows the price of the A5 or S5 for the U.S. market and it's out for sale in other countries...this vehicle 1) doesn't even have a name and 2) it's still in cloak, it's still being tested, so it's not even known what it'lll look like or features it may have...get a grip..

I'd gladly take a 35k Passat over the 35k Avalon or 35 Maxima, Accord or Camry ex xle v6 vvti whatever over the TL too...

I couldn't agree more with 610looper about taking a Passat over the Avalon...etc. But on the other hand, it's still a FWD based off the Golf. So I would choose G35 or redesigned CTS over the Passat coupe.

@ mercbasher.......I don't care what car or manufacturer outsells who, I spend my money on what I want, to satisfy myself...for that matter, Walmart probably outsells Target and most other mom and pop stores, but I don't buy from Walmart, I spend my money where I want...Mass sells means absolutely nothing to me.. I like this Passat thing because of what it is not, another Japanese clone
