AMP converts Saturn Sky into a 300-hp electric car with 125mpg
AMP, Advanced Mechanical Product, is an electric sports car company based out of Cincinnati, Ohio that is focused on converting Saturn’s models into electric cars. Why Saturn? Well, AMP believes that Saturn cars are lightweight and high-quality American vehicles.

First in AMP’s electric vehicle lineup is the Saturn Sky. Out goes the 2.4 liter 4-clyinder engine and in goes AMP’s electric motor capable of producing over 300 horsepower. That will give the Saturn Sky the ability to do 0-60 in...

Why? Who is going to pay $60,000 for a Saturn. If you can pay $60,000 for a car, then you can afford gas at the current prices.

90mph? Prius can run up to 108mph for half of the price.

so you're one those clowns that purchased a floor mat from Walmart that didn't properly fit in the Prius, and then went on to sue Toyota for your stupidity... welcome to the Darwin awards!

I think all these stories of electric conversions are fun for those of use who grew up with Tamiya R/C cars (Grasshopper, remember it?) and always just knew that someday we'd be able to drop a giant Mabuchi 550 motor into a real car...yep, it'll burn serious rubber!

Good for Saturn. GM is an idiot for choosing Chev as the brand of "electric". Saturn has more of an orignal history when it comes to this segment(Saturn EV1). Just the other day a GM press release explains how the CEO of GM state that the Saturn product has a lost its' image. The American public does not really recognize. Now they are forced to spend billions more a year to boost the Saturn image. If they know any better...Saturn is the better pic for electricity...Trash the Chevy Volt, they are just cannibilizing a better product.

The EV1 was the GM EV1 (it wasn't a Saturn). Chevrolet has more dealers and a deeper market penetration that Saturn ever will. Chevrolet appeals to more of the market than Saturn does and more people would consider a Chevrolet than Saturn. Also the Volt will help bring up the environmental image of Chevrolet whereas Saturn really isn't even on the 'gas hogs' map for most greenies.

Still not as impressive as PML! But I am still somewhat impressed. Why can't one of the manufacturers from any auto company produce these numbers? Fuel mielage... This company is probably under funded, under staffed and they still make all the auto companies look like forest Gump! Although $25,000 is too high a price to transform an existing car into an electrical car.

Sir, you have answer your own question. It's all about the money and not many people are willing to pay over $30k for an electric car.

Maikoazu, I was trying to suggest that an auto company would make a car with simular numbers as PML's for around the same price as a gas car, give or take a few thousand. You must remember the gas savings of an electric would pay for its self. And you are right not many people would pay $30,000. for an electric car today because there is nothing worth buying!
