AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: Confidential Cadillac demographic/turnaround report (accidentally?) leaked on purpose?
Cadillac announced it was switching ad agencies from Leo Burnett over to Modernista just a little while ago.

Obviously, when you lose an account that big it has to hurt.

So when PlanoA4 emailed us this extremely detailed demoographic/turnaround report that USED to be on a protected part of their in-house servers, we began to wonder was it an accident it became unprotected or was it on purpose?

Maybe a little sour grapes?

You be the judge...

Leo Burnett together with the Cadillac designers and engineers did a great job. Compare Cadillac's current position with that of Lincoln.

Modernista is "in bed" with one of the new Cadillac management team. That's the only reason for the change. When that manager is history so will Modernista.

How sad. PlanoA4 played the Spies for dopes. If you had done any research, you would have learned this is not an 'exclusive' or a 'leak'. It's a case study prepared by EdVenture TWO YEARS AGO as part of a competition among undergraduate marketing students. And the first clue? If you read the whole 'report' you can see that there's an ASSIGNMENT at the end--you know, like you give to a class full of eager young students. Check out the story here: http://www.brandweek.com/bw/search/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000560926

AdamBravo- Well if was produced in 2004 as you say, then the dates on the report would be different, now wouldn't they. They report was pulled directly from the server with 2000 to 2005 models and last update of January 2006. The report is still out there. Google the title and you will find it.

But if you actually read the report you would know that wouldn't you? Too quick to judge and too quick to discard.

adambravo- The creation original date of article is actually unknown, and really who cares? The data is current (as of Jan 2006 the last update) and that is all that really matters.

In reading the article, it's interesting to see how the execs put Mercedes,BMW,Lexus,Cadillac as Tier-1 top-luxury and then Acura, Audi, Infiniti in Tier-2 or "near luxury intenders".

Dear Caddy execs, why don't I just sum it up for you (you don't need overpaid ad agency nor do you need any more useless focus groups): 1. Baby-boomer generation is getting right into you target market for age so fret not sales will pick up since Caddy has often been referred to as an "old mans car". 2. There are more professional athletes and hip-hop artists been made everyday - your bread and butter.

PlanoA4,
The document was originally created in 2004, per the Brandweek story (same author, same players, same issues). And, yes, I read the report. Did you? It was revised--not created--January 2006 (although obviously not that updated, as it's still showing the old Escalade). What really matters is that, as stated elsewhere on this site (http://www.autospies.com/news/The-REAL-scoop-on-the-supposedly-leaked-documents-from-Cadillac-7369/), it's certainly not super-duper top secret (hey--it was shared with students!) and had no bearing on Cadillac's new ad agency.
