AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: The feature that makes this 2007 Mercedes THE luxury sedan to have
There are so many great things about the new S-Class that are not only cool but also groundbreaking.

Night view assist, brake assist, panoramic roof are just a few.

But if you live in a traffic dense area like SoCal like the Spies or do a lot of highway driving we think you will appreciate this feature the most.

And for a short period of time, Mercedes has the jump on its competitors.

Is the Distronic Plus radar cruise system.

The differnece between this and the other radar cruises out the from Infiniti, etc. is tha the Mercedes system can bring you to a full stop and crawl you through bumper to bumper traffic without EVER having to touch the brake or the gas pedal!

We've tried it and it is nothing less than awesome!

Check out the excluive video on how the system works...

I'd rather rely on my own foot, than some MB electrical componentry.

Any word yet on how much this amazing technology will cost? Adaptive Cruise on an A8L is $2100, "ouch"! For that kind of money or more I think I could just pay attention.

So who's the idiot that wrote the line..."There are so many great things about the new S-Class that are not only cool but also groundbreaking"....and then...."Night view assist, brake assist, panoramic roof are just a few".

Hmmm..so can someone tell me that any of those are new and ground breaking "things". Brake assist...hmmm, yep not a first. Been out for a while. Panoramic roof...well, I don't even have to go there if you have any sense of automotive history. And Night View Assist. You aren't even worth it.........

So to finish up....it's a wonderful piece of electronic junk. If you can't take traffic, get off the road and go back to your big wheel. Keep on blowing sunshine up it's tailpipe until it fails and involves someone in a horrible accident and then someone is hurt by it. Then come the lawsuits. It's in a car. It will brake or fail.

This is just a crutch for people to lean more and more on. No one drives anymore. That's the problem ....(present company of you that do, excluded).

Tawio,

What planet have you come from? Mark - your on the button mate! As an E320 owner and someone who has worked in automotive product development for over 25 years, I can tell you that I would not put my faith in ANY electronic systems used by Mercedes (note: and developed by others for them e.g. Bosch, Delphi, Valeo!).

Don't believe me? Get your hands on a copy of the British TV series 'Top Gear' to see how it can go disasterously wrong. Still not convinced? Try reading a few of the M-B owners forums and the British consumer magazine "Which?" for evidence of Benz "reliability". If my 320 was badged and priced as a Daewoo - sorry, Chevrolet - I would rate the electronic systems reliability as pathetic, but a premium-priced product? Diabolical! My first and last M-B.

I had the chance to climb through a 2007 MB S550 at an auto show. MB has done a wonderful job on this car over the previous gen and the car does look gorgeous. However! it is still lacking the fit and finish of the Audis (even the lowly A3). Grab a handful of the front grill (upper or lower), and you can actually twist it causing it to squeak and flex. The two sheet metals comprising the hood have finally been rolled and bonded (like Audi has been doing for ages), but there are still rough edges you can cut your fingers on. Door hinges are still inferior to the Audis. Getting in and out of the back seat is still challenging, and don't even bother to pick up a couple of friends from the airport with normal luggage. The trunk is woefully undersized. At $90,000+ price tag for a RWD!, I would be looking at the A8L.
