This is a new generation!? It looks the exact same...inside and out. I think if you're going to redesign a vehicle, at least make it a big change like Acura did with the MDX. That is a good looking SUV.

001- For more accurate information BMW Dealers are not discounting these cars and the demand is high. My local dealer has a waiting list and there will be no break on price.

Look what I got in the mail from BMW just today!!!!
"Product Planning & Strategy BWM Dealer Bulletin"
It says stuff about the introduction, about the engines, safety, new standard eqipment, base prices.... and packages.
It says there will be a premium package, which includes auto dimming mirrors, compass mirror, light package BWM assist to 4 yrs, homelink, leather, and panoramic sunroof.
Cold weather: heated steering wheel, heated front seats, ski bag, headlight washers.
Sport Package: 3 spoke steering wheel, 19'' wheels, 20'' optional, ARS and EDC, Shadowline trim and anthracite headliner.
Rear climate package: 4-zone system, privacy glass, sunshades.
Premium Sound: 600 watt 6 disk w/ MP3 coding.
Active Ventilated seat package: active/ventilated driver seat, ventilated passenger seat.
Tech package: Navi, rearview camera, park distance control.
Expect arrival at your dealer at the end of november.
Make mine a 3.0si with all the option packages except Sport, Premium Sound and Active Seat!

BMW 777,

Some of the larger metro areas have small lists like Orange County, etc. but the demand is nowhere like it was for the last one.

Regarding discounts...don't be a girlie man! Be a '00' and DEMAND a discount of 500-1000.

Someone will give it to if you're firm and you ask.

$1,000 discount on a $60,000 vehicle is a joke, considering that even the floor mats cost more ;)

VDIV, I agree. Someone shopping for an X5 will scoff at a $1,000 discount. That's probably what the manicure costs a high-end soccer mom every week. :p

The current X5 is still better looking than most other SUVs on the market so it makes sense for BMW not to stray too far from the current Design.

The important thing is that the working bits are all different/Better, from Powertrain to Suspension to Interior, Much better than Automakers that redesign the exterior of a vehicle while every part not visible is left unchanged ;)

(Cant wait to see what this handles like with the double wishbone suspension setup)

Yeah, but not straying far from the old design will leave them looking dated in 10 years. Look at the new Acura MDX, it looks like a concept vehicle because it's more advanced in design, BMW will eventually have to upgrade and I think that they should've done it this time around so they don't have to spend more money to make a new generation of the vehicle when they realize that it's too old in design and isn't selling.

Whats wrong with you?
Why does a car have to look like a spaceship to be modern? The MDX looks like shit.. i dont like it anyway, but the X5 looks masculin outside and very nice inside, it has this nice clean look, i would like to have one, But will never be able to get one.
Why? The price the current version already costs 170.000 USD for the 3.0i version the 4,4 costs 229.000 USD thats the price in Denmark.

Thanks to BMW for making smaller engines but still nice cars like the 1 series and 3 series. I have a 316i e46, and like it a lot.

Lexusis350, the new MDX looks terrible, way worse than the old model wich wasn't a great design in itself. I can understand one liking the new MDX's interior over the new X5's (I personally do not), but the X5's exterior design has more taste, looking way more expensive than the MDX.

The new X5 accomplishes looking very modern without looking like a spaceship, as MPowerDK mentions. I think Acura's newer models and even older models lack class and prestige...thing's the X5 and BMW, represent!

001 is right. Doesn't matter what your dealer "says" he can't do. You will always find someone that can, even if that means going a little further out to another dealership. I tend to think some dealers like to have someone challange them.

anyone that would spend hours of their time going from dealer to dealer over an extra 0.8% discount on a new model has way too much time on their hands. Aside from the obvious "how much is my time worth to me" angle, when I need something down the road, like my car being picked up and dropped off for service or a loaner car that most BMW dealers don't give to non-customers, or even an emergency appointment when I can't wait a week and a half to get my car in, that 0.8% I got driving eight hours to and from Chicago is worthless. I'm not going to step over dimes to pick up nickels.

If your price estimates are correct then the Danish Government are Criminals.
You do realise that being part of the EU, you can just drive over to Germany, Buy yourself a vehicle and drive right back to Denmark ?

Just dont bother to register the vehicle in Denmark, Im sure you'll find somebody in Germany who would let you use their address to register the Car.
(Advantage is all Speeding/Parking Fines would be sent to Germany or not at all:)

as we say take one pay for three..
The tax on cars are very high in Denmark. The tax department know about Danish living in Copenhagen and the cityes around it, are having fake adresses in Malmo en Sweden, trust me they try as hard as they can to find the cheaters. The get a fine AND have to pay they registration tax for the car. I just hate this country when it comes to cars.
On the other hand, it is free to go to the doctor, hospital, are you withuout a job, you get help.
BUT i would still like to have a X5 my dream car.

Will,

Prestige means reputation or influence arising from success/showing of wealth and power. BMW has clearly accomplished this with the X5, raising the bar to new highs for what a luxury SUV should be (Mercedes ML came before the X5, just the X5 set the benchmark).

Now other's have followed suit with high performing SUV's like the Infiniti FX, Caddilac SRX, & Porche Cayenne.

Lexus has a reputation for great customer service a vehicle reliability while BMW on the other hand, has a reputation for creating some of the best driving cars on the road, with extremely influential car design. Just look at the X5's bold muscular appearance compared to the weak and plain design of the RX.

The difference between the X5 and the Lexus RX is, the X5 will be an entertaining car to drive for as long as you own it. The RX on the other hand is steril to drive, and might aswell be as exciting as a mini-van!

So I guess you could say Lexus has some prestige, just it's in all the wrong areas.

I don't know what all of you are talking about, the MDX is such a big improvement over the old generation. I think Acura is doing their own version of Lexus' L-Finesse by making all of their vehicles look similar. I think that the MDX will look so much more attractive in person and until anyone has seen it in person, don't say it's ugly. You never know. I thought the Lexus ES 350 wasn't their best design but I saw one in person and pictures don't do justice to the real deal.

Euro or not, cars will always be expensive in Denmark. The government need the money, sadly they dont use it to make the roads better, they are many places in bad condition.
I have a 316i if had been able to buy it in sweden i could had a 530i, and that is today, my car is 2 years old now... sad.

Hi everyone

I'm joining in from England. I have currently own a diesel X5 and this is my second one. This car is brilliant to drive and in England is considered one of the finest mid-priced 4 x 4 cars. The Range Rover and top end Porsche Cayenne are more expensive. 2 years ago my well specified diesel sport cost over £40,000 and we do not know what the new prices will be when we get the new X5 early in the new year. The stiff competition here is from the Range Rover Discovery (very boxy in shape and diesel is a bit slow - plus they tend to go wrong a lot) and the latest Merc ML. I will try out diesels in both these cars before I order another X5, but feel I will not do better than the X5 - and yes, the discount will be meagre although we did get 8% off our 320d touring earlier this year.
We do not get Acura cars here and the cars mentioned above plus the Volvo 4 x 4 are the ones to buy and are top rated by the motoring magazines. Prestige means different things to different people, but driving experience and understated interior are what it is all about. The X5 has been very popular here, but there are a lot of Discos around now, so BMW do need to match that car and the ML which is very good looking.
