Acura's 2010 NSX Disrobed - Should The LF-A Take Cover?
Honda thinks that the zebra-pattern camouflage we saw at Germany's Nürburgring in June will disguise the new look of its V10-powered Acura NSX replacement. But our sources in Japan, using some insider hints, have disrobed Honda's flagship sports car more than two years ahead of its unveiling.

Given what we see in these renderings, the grand tourer is neat but not gorgeous, and follows the 2007 Detroit Auto Show concept car's lines closer than first thought. And that's a shame, because the two-seater Acura's expected price tag of $160,000 will place it right on top of much prettier rivals in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati Gran Turismo and Jaguar XKR.

And with that move...it is now time to fire the entire Honda design team.

On the one bright side...it does appear that honda removed the shield from the front...it the artists rendering is close.

Nice looking....although should be about a 60k car....not 160k. Is is me, or does anyone see a little testarossa in the side profile. Acura should really rethink this car and especially it's price. Or just bring the HSC concept to fuition ABOVE this car and make it the 160k supercar.

V-10 NSX

well, considering the last 270hp NSX was $80-90k new, I somehow doubt that $60k was ever in the cards for the new 550-600hp version.

$160k is awfully steep though, especially if it looks like that. I'd take an Aston Martin, Ferrari, or Lamborghini over that in a second, even with the lower performance.

160K is kinda over.

But I think it's well worth 100K w/ the BMW-beating V10, let alone way faster Nurburgring lap time.

I'm getting the funny feeling that Lexus set up the leak saying that its LF-A would be around $225k. There could be many reasons for that, so I'll let you guys think about it.

There's been a lot of speculation that this isn't even the NSX successor but the rumored Acura coupe that's on it's way. They're using this body just to test the engine.

Actually thinking that myself. And the rear really wants to be a Cadillac with its sharp edge design, but just ends up getting confused.

I think one of the honda designers opened up a knife drawer at the office and threw it at piece of clay...when the last knife had fallen he took a look at it and went "Well, the rear is done."

$160,000 ??? They just made it a failure.

The reason the original was a success was it had Ferrari Looks, 911 performance and Honda reliability and quality BUT at 2/3 to 1/3 the price of its competition.

Audi did the "Halo" car right.. awesome car, great performance, and looks, BUT priced right at or just above the bench mark for obtainable performance car.. $100-120K.

If the California comes in at $200,000 or less then most people who buy the NSX and LF-A are getting their second or third choice and not wanting to wait.

SO.. Are the Competitor here the LF-A, NSX, California, DB(X)? Why not get something cheaper like a Porsche 911 Turbo...

Bland, boring and as usual derivative. Acura's styling team continues to disappoint. Honda is to blame as much as Acura, since its will be sold in most of the world as a Honda.

HONDA ARE YOU LISTENING, if your insipid design team can not design as visually exciting $160,000 sports car, it time to FIRE THEM!

Shouldn't a manufacturers "halo" car share the brands' major design cues? Where's the beak? The R8 has Audi's signature grill (love it or hate it), BMW wouldn't build a supercar without the double-kidneys. Since Acura is developing an entirely new design aesthetic, the NSX should be the anchor for their commitment to that design.

Perhaps they arent' as confident in that design statement...

JRobUSCJRobUSC - 7/29/2008 1:52:12 PM

^ in fairness, if Acura put that shield/beak grill on the front NO ONE would buy one. So maybe they were smart in one regard at least.

Aston and Ferrari yes but a Porsche? a 3 year old can design 911.

It's a sad fact but cars of 90s cannot be matched on looks, designers now have to consider plethora of "safety" features and regulations when designing.

I'd hate to be an Acura fan right now. Mikey_Dred, Blacura, where you at?

I'm right here (Blackura), I had to change my name on this site because I lost my password and i could never get a new one emailed to me. Anyway, let's just wait until the official debut of the car before calling it a failure. Regardless of how it looks, the car should perform amazingly considering that Honda is an engine company above all else.

This is not NSX. (according to some insider on vtec.net)
This is a $60k FR coupe of Acura with V10. 500+hp, sporty SH-AWD plus dual clutch.
NSX is rumored to be MR, still. Same powertrain, full-aluminum body (like previous NSX). NSX is at least 2 year away. Acura is using this coupe to test the V10 and chassis.

Imagine a 550hp V10 Mid-engine NSX with SH-AWD at 3200lbs!

I like the design a lot and I especially like the rear portion but $160,000? I seriously hope they do not ask that much for it especially when you can get the super Corvette for less and all the power and prestige that goes along with it. I think Acura is trying to redefine its self and its having a hard time doing it.

This new Honda NSX is definitely going to be one mean "Beast" but a asking price of $160k is alot. With that kind of money, I would rather get an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Even thought it will be slower, but it look way better than this Honda NSX for sure.

Even better, with $160k I can get a Lexus IS-F, and still have enough money left to get a New M3 or Audi RS4.

I wonder if Acura could have something up there's sleeves with this; a hybrid V-10 powertrain that's super-efficient, with decent highway mileage? Regardless, we do live in some interesting times. So, in 2010, Joe Moneybags would be cross shopping a 160K Acura, a-god-knows-how-much marked up Nissan (V-spec GTR base price is rumored to be 130K...BASE!), the Ferrari California, and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage? Who'd thunk it?

Hmmm , in all fairness there isnt enough in the kitty to make any of the above cars stick ...( longer than a few months) in ownership . Plus with Gas prices in CA who needs a v10 !!!!

Somehow, honda was always a company that eschewed the common solutions ... hence 4 cylinder sports cars (s2k) and a 6 cylinder super car (Nsx).
A v6 Nsx that was outrageously high revving ( 10 - 16 k) and light weight with some interesting driver aids ( next gen transmission that used F1 tech circa 2006 before it got banned, or the steering aid used to help turn in) would be truly awesome ..
I also think it would help them in the marketing dept. Cause if i am in the market for a Ferrari, I aint gonna cross shop .. These are all toys and nobody cross shops toys .
