Alfa Romeo 159 Sedan Spotted in the U.S.
We spotted this euro-spec Alfa Romeo 159 sedan on a flatbed traveling down I-94 in Michigan. It's anyone's guess what it's doing here, but we do know that Alfa plans to bring a revised 159 (and several other models) to the U.S. beginning in 2009.

The model seen here is fitted with Alfa's 150-hp, 1.9-liter diesel four. The car is also offered in Europe with a larger diesel as well as a choice of three direct-injected gas engines. All-wheel drive is available as well. Have a look at the images and then click below to read what we had to say about the larger Alfa 169 in our June 2008 Sneak Preview issue.

Funny you say that...I would love to buy one, but the reliability issue is always on my mind. But, then again I own a Rover.....

I would love to own one too! It wouldn't so much be the reliability for me as much as the lack of places to service them once they did break. Can you imagine how much a tow might be if the closest place to service was 40 miles away?

Wow, there's the inspiration for the new lancer's tailights. Also reminds me of the tailights on the 1999 RX300 (they were only like that for 1 year).

Odd that this tailamp 'style' hasnt appeared on other cars.

I had a couple of Alfas in the 80s and 90s. Never was stranded, or had a major problem.

Little annoying things happened, but amazingly fun, gratifying things did, too.

I will be in line for the next spyder for sale in the US.

How can the americans on this site bag Alfa reliability when you haven't been able to own a new Alfa for years? The new alfa's are some of the best looking vehicles on the road (nothing like a Mazda!) & for a non-mainstream brand sell well throughout the rest of the world. Alfa have moved on, but there seems to be some here who haven't! Start looking forwards to getting some great new cars to buy.

The new Alfa's are not the old Alfa's of yore. I owned 3 Alfa's an 85 and 86 GTV6 and an 81 Spider. Out of the 3 the Spider was the best built but all 3 had reliability issues. In addition replacement parts were not of great quality. The Brera/159 and Spider currently have engines derived from a GM/Aussie block and have proven to be very reliable. The problem has been with these car's is weight. They are very heavy ranginging from 3600 to 3900 LBS. This has blunted perfromance and handling to a degree but the cars are very solid. The Spider,I've read, however suffers from classic scuttle shake over bad roads. My understanding is the cars we get from next yr on will be lighter with more powerful engines. The question is how they are priced. To be competative they need to be priced from about 29 grand to 40 grand,no higher.

I also hope that we get the new Mito to compete with the Mini Cooper. It's gotten some good write ups.
