Nope, it will only further dilute the brand.— _43LE (View Profile)

I doubt you'll see it hear just becaus of the cost. Now that the X3 will be built in the U.S. the cost saving should make it near or about the same price as the X1.— theoptimisticpessimist (View Profile)

as long as it is an honest to god bmw with bmw virtues i dont see how it could dilute anything, only add to the lineup and bring new young customers to the showrooms (especially those who want an SUV but not the bad gas mileage), and from the pre-production reviews of the X1, it seems to be very promising. — schnell330i (View Profile)

I think it could be successful -- from what I've read it's not that much smaller inside than the current X3, making it actually very similar in interior space to the GLK. The new X3 is going to be similar in size to the ML and priced higher than it is now, so there's room for the smaller, less expensive X1 in the model lineup, especially since the GLK has been selling well. They just need to make sure they don't run into the same trappings as the Infiniti EX (i.e. overly sporty, too small inside to be useful, looks more like a tall wagon than a small SUV, etc.)— JRobUSC (View Profile)

Maybe they can fix the horrible automatic transmission in the X3's so it doesn't jerk everywhere. Worst BMW out of the twelve I have owned. I think BMW has totally lost its way with the exception of the 1-series. — startingover (View Profile)

I wish the 128i didn't have the GM automatic transmission, lots of historic problems. The 135i convertible is awesome, but overkill for me at this time.— startingover (View Profile)

The key to the X1 success will be pricing. It will need to come in below the existing X3 - starting at or under $30K and low $30's for a moderately equipped model would be a good value. That will allow the new X3 to stay where it is now and top out at about $40K. Otherwise, BMW runs the risk of far too much pricing overlap as the X1 pushes the X3 upmarket which then pushes the X5 upmarket. The economy won't support much upmarket movement for existing (even revised) models like the X3 and X5, so BMW has to make room at the bottom for the X1 (or else face disastrous sales). — thstone (View Profile)

This will probably be the X1 level. You either take a RWD low riding larger sedan or an AWD higher-riding smaller crossover-SUV for the same money.— MrBratwurst (View Profile)
