Americans are driving about 20 billion fewer miles this year
According to the Transportation Department, Americans drove 1.4 billion fewer highway miles in April 2008 than they did during the same period a year ago. Overall this year, Americans have driven 20 billion fewer miles and nearly 30 billion fewer miles since November.

Of course, gas-prices are being blamed for the monthly drop. The Transportation Department says that the April drop is three times larger than the drop from March 2007 to March of this year which was about...

Gas price are supposedly going to climb for awhile according to "expert's prediction". At least until this September. And it probably will go back down a bit...but we all know it what happens as soon as the price goes down..it goes right back up again..only this time much higher. I see the pattern and its only going to get worse but I see a positive outcome of this also. It forces Autobilders to change..to evolve...to force a change for better. It ignites a leap forward in technology to survive.

I keep seeing the same wrong thinking here and that is, instead of fighting to lower the prices and do nothing else but that, we're giving ourselves useless and meaningless hopes that the car manufacturers will be forced to produce better fuel economy cars.

Ok, lets say cars will start making 100 mpg and the gas price is $8/gl or higher. Are we going to be satisfied? Because just a reminder that filling up a mid size car that has 20 gallons tank it will cost $160. But, the same people in the gulf countries will fill their tanks for $16 (considering $0.80/gl).

The issue is about prices going up due to greediness and not demand nor an opportunity to start new technologies, the new technologies will come out on their own without further pressure.
