Audi's 2.

0T was first introduced in the 2005 A4. Since then, the engine has found its way across a plethora of the Volkswagen Group's models including the Audi A5, Q5, and A6 not to mention many of Volkswagen's own models.

Car and Driver gives us a sneak peak at the next-generation 2 liter turbo-four which can be presently found with the name "2.0T" in the Audi lineup. Also, discussed is Audi's upcoming Twin-Turbo Diesel V6, which is currently found in Audi's hot-rod SQ5 TDI SUV.

Which allows for to use less metal so it isn't any heavier than the competitor's aluminum blocks and has better heat properties. Perhaps you should read the article? Considering that the V6 and V8 blocks are aluminum I am sure it is about picking the best material for the specific engine size.

Looks like the newest 2.0T isn't coming with the updated Q5 though.

In a diesel you want an iron block over an aluminum one. sure Aluminum is lighter but diesels have twice the compression ration plus a lot of boost on top of that. I'll take the heavy duty iron block in a diesel.
