An Exclusive List: Who Makes The Most Coveted Cars In The World?
The Bugatti Veyron supercar can go from zero to 60 in less than 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 253 miles per hour. And by most accounts it ranks as the world's most expensive production vehicle.

But with a planned worldwide run of 300, even the most deep-pocketed will not likely see one, ever. That's because, in addition to dropping $1.4 million, buyers will have to wait in line about 10 months for the 80 to 90 models rolling off the assembly line this year.

Thats a misconception that most Lexus fanboys site as evidence that the car is in demand. However, sold out doesn't mean that none are availible. Usually, it just means that the dealers have secured as many cars as they possibly can from the manufacturer just in case the car is in high demand. That way they can say that no more will be availible for two years or what have you. What it really means is that they will have 10 cars (if Lexus will only be giving that dealership 5 a year) and maybe 2 people are in line waiting for one. So the first two are taken, and the others are up for grabs. Usually dealers wait until some one places an order for a car to tell the manufacturer that they want a specific number of IS350s, for example. With cars that are supposedly "Sold out" it usually means that the dealers have secured as many as they can get, like i said, juuuust in case there is high demand. So to conclude this rather loooooong explanation of this misconception, "sold out" doesn't necessarily mean sold out, and as for the LS600H, it doesn't for sure because I can go down to my local dealership and put an order down on one and recieve it when their next batch of LS's come in.

I think most people are missing the point. Firstly, Lexus does make a wonderful car. But I think it is a little naive to assume that because someone drives a certain car it must be the best car in the world.

That is much like someone waking up and telling you that Apple makes the fastest computer in the world!!! Yet a seasoned vet would just hop on the "google" and in seconds look beyond the marketing hype.

YES all those rich people may own a Lexus - BUT is that all they own? No SL or Porsche's in their names? They same people drive Pius. I wonder!!!

Secondly, will this fabulous Lexus be worth $10 million in 50 years time? i.e is it going to be a collectors item parked in someone private garage for the next 50 years or will the Aston Martin or some such other car be parked there?

My train of thought would be this - drive a lexus to work, very reliable and comfortable car - but over the weekend I would rather be in my Range - more presence - it's that intangible that makes a woman look and know that "hey, someone important has arrived, wonder who he is". I never get that from the lexus - but it's a darn good car if you ask me - it just suffers from the Audi syndrome.

Lexus's main market is the U.S. and they dominate here. When someone pulls-up in an LX, "woman look and know that "hey, someone important has arrived, wonder who he is" ", same as a Range Rover does. Don't kid yourself.

Mercedes-Benz clearly are the best. The first car with an airbag that could be used as a restrainment system was a Merc S-Class, the first car with anti-lock brakes was an S-Class and the first car with satellite navigation was an S-Class. Although I think that in terms of technical inovation and luxury, Mercedes-Benz is very good, I just can't be seen in one simply because, as with most prestige cars in the world, the badge sells the car. Same with BMW, Ferarri, Maserati, Cadillac, Lincoln, etc. I like Audi because, at least in america, it is very understated and elegant and you buy one because you want one, not because it's a Merc and you want to show off to the neighbors.

I'm not sure this huston cutie is even real.

Anyways, I think she/he is seriously out of touch.

Just a few points.

a. If you're going to brag about the LS Hybrid being great, you might want to make sure you know that it has a CVT, not an 8-speed auto.

b. "But is not gone get it. For 1.4 Million dollars and it doesn't have an 8-speed automatic transmission, nor the world's most advance engine, not as near technological, Nor not near as green. Only stuid people with stupid money will do such a stupid thing. Thank God Bill Gates the richest man in the world is not stupid, because he drives a "Lexus". Even though he can buy all of those cars on the list at 100 times each."

This right here tells me you still lurk in the classrooms of the 5th grade. You want to speak about technology, let's discuss the LS's revolutionary hybrid system that not only slows the car down, but makes it less fuel efficient as well. Brilliant! With this breakthrough in engine development, we will surely reverse global warming, bring back extinct animals, and all live in peace...

...or perhaps thats your dreamworld.

Fact is lexus sold a overweight poorly designed poorly executed vehicle on hype alone. At least when Rivals of the LS diminish fuel economy, they make their cars faster. Lexus managed to make theirs slower. If this is the direction Lexus tech is going then count me out. I'll stick with my archaic German engineering, thank you very much.

I also find it somewhat comical that while on one of your childish tirades, you managed to spell the word "S-T-U-P-I-D" wrong.

And I still don't get why you're comparing a collectors car to the LS. Regardless of what the Veyron lacks in comparison to the LS, millions upon millions were spent perfecting this vehicle. It's not designed to "self park itself" (really, if you cant self park, you shouldn't be on the road) it's a museum piece, it's as simple as that. By your flawed logic, the McLaren F1, Ferrari Enzo, Pagani Zonda, Ultima GTR, etc are all worthless pieces of rubbish because they dont have cooled seats, or someother crap like that. Grow up, and learn a thing or two about cars.

"Europeans lack technology"

I was going to call you out on this one, but then I realized they don't get this in depth in 5th grade social studies.

Oh, and Dave...

"It's more than that. The LS600h defines what the new car of the next era should be like. Lexus has lead the way again into the future. Countless carmakers will strive to invent and perfect hybrids the way Lexus has perfected them and they will try to emulate the LS600h but to no avail. The LS600h is the future. Cars can be fast and fun to drive and still be clean and green. The LS600h is such a car."

They haven't perfected it. They demonstrated that when it was slower and less fuel efficient than the petrol only model. And please don't kid yourself saying th LS is fun to drive. It's not.

How is the LS600h about "performance" when the acceleration and fuel economy are WORSE or NO DIFFERENT from the LS460? The LS600h is clearly a mistake on Lexus part. And there's nothing spectacular about it being "sold out" since it's a limited edition model.

Anthony, you still don't understand something. THE LS600HL DOES NOT OFFER ANY PERFORMANCE. NONE! And with that, you get 18mpg! AMAZING!

It's mind-blowing to me that you're still making excuses about this car. It was a mistake! It is NOT well-done! The LS460L is simply the more capable vehicle- it's just as fast/faster AND gets better mileage! AND costs less! AND is more fun to drive, because it weighs so much less!

ErichHartmannErichHartmann - 9/9/2007 6:37:57 PM
+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The LS600h is also for sale in Europe, and the interest shown in it by Europeans has been very low according to our competition statistics data research.

The European consumer knows that hybrid systems achieve the best fuel economy within urban environments. Lexus advertisements here do not mention this. They claim that the car will achieve superior fuel economy in ALL situations, which is not the case. This is false advertising.

The European consumer is more convinced when it comes to diesel-powered vehicles, especially in the luxury class.

999:

i don't think 'everyone' wants one. there are only 1500 or so LS600s being made per year. that's TINY volume for a car priced at $104,000. a properly equipped S550 is the same price and mercedes manages to move over 2500 per month. so whatever difficulty you seem to be having obtaining one is due to tiny volume not high demand.

So the point all the Lexus defenders are putting across is - At night I dream about the LS600HL? I want to pin up a poster of this car cause it is so beautiful (ala Lamborghini Countach - remember all those posters!!) We are comparing a luxury car that competes with S-class, 7 series, A8 - and then trying to compare it with a Lamborghini?!! I know lexus is good, but just how good?

As I pointed out, I love my Lexus - but it is not an Aston Martin - if anyone is so in love with Lexus, put your money were your mouth is, I am willing to swap my LS 460 with your Aston Martin (he he he!!!)

I think the main thing to consider is the derived exclusivity obtained from certain cars. It's much like saying I went to Harvard - it may not be the best program you attend, but the assumed UNTOUCHABLE. UCLA, Penn State etc. are all great schools, but then Harvard is given that little extra something in respect - No?

The title of BEST car in the world is very different from most sought after. Miss Universe may be the hottest women from a collection of women, but she will not be hunted down for a photo shoot like the top models. They have that something else - the UNTOUCHABLE - goodwill if you like, that you can't put a price on. Heritage.

Most reliable luxury car in the world = Lexus.

Most exclusive luxuy car in the world = Range Rover Sport! :) (Well, hey - it's my baby - and it's a JOKE!)

So ask yourselves, what car do you stay up and dream about? Which car inspires you from a design perspective?

I feel the exact same way. Too bad ignorance rules this site, from both polar opposite ends. Aston Martin DB9 is the car I dream about, Lexus LS is the car I own.

I'm going to try very hard to find a used DB9 Volante over the next few years... that car is simply the most beautiful in the world.

At least there's ONE thing everyone can agree on. Except BenzW124, I guess.

I also think a true car collector is not buying S-class, 7 series, A8 and certainly not Lexus - I have a better chance with the 1986 M3 at a collectors item than with the LS600HL.

"The LS600hL is about performance without the sacrifice of fuel economy. It's not that hard to understand, unless you're a bitter Euro-snob, apparently. And houstoncutie might be a Lexus troll, but then again he might be a fake poster, spewing crap to anger the rest of us into bashing Lexus. Look who's stupid now..."

This may be true, but the petrol model is faster and just as, if not more, fuel efficent.
