ABS brakes
Anti-lock brakes are bad for your health
Researchers have compared accident and fatality rates for vehicles with and without ABS. Other studies have examined the driving records of ABS and non-ABS equipped taxi drivers in Munich and Oslo. The accident and fatality data shows that ABS exacerbates the severity of accidents in certain situations. The taxi study proved that drivers tend to take greater risks in cars equipped with ABS (although the difference in collision rates was not significant). In short, ABS may do more harm than good.
More specifically, the studies show that ABS has no real-world effect on dry-surface braking, ABS-equipped vehicles take longer to stop on ice than non-ABS vehicles, ABS-equipped vehicles are more prone to roll-over accidents than non-ABS vehicles, ABS-equipped vehicles are involved more often in single car fatal accidents than non-ABS vehicles, and drivers of ABS-equipped vehicles tend to drive faster and apply their brakes later than non-ABS drivers.

they forget stability control relies upon abs to work, and that saves lives.
and abs isn't supposed to reduce stopping distance, it's supposed to give the driver control when braking hard, and prevent skidding.
on loose ground it lengthens stopping distance.

i am sure that's not a cayenne, it's got a split tailgate.
it's a volvo xc90.
look upside down at the rear, it bulges out just like an xc90.

I don't think Taxi drivers in Munich and Olson are a fair representative of drivers...

Well, maybe they should do a study and find out that cars with more than 500 hp are about 1,000,000 times more dangerous than cars with 50 hp. That would be something. I am pretty sure that ABS is one of the greatest safety related advances in a while.

That isn't a Cayenne! Volvo uses a sled thing to launch the XC90 into the air to see how well the roof holds up.
And think about this. It's late at night, and you hit a patch of ice on a curve. Your vehicle dosen't have ESP or ABS, and you hit the brakes. The tires lock up, and you go skidding off the road. And since most cars that don't have ABS are small compacts, the damage is worse. If you had ABS or ESP, the driver can safely regain contol.
Also, a factor about those surveys are that, these drivers who are used to braking a non-ABS vehicle, sometimes don't know how to brake properly. The don't hit the brake hard enough, pulsate the pedal,or and when the pedal pulsates (the ABS is engaged) they take their foot off the pedal, thinking something is wrong. Also, some people don't know that you CAN steer and brake at the same time w/ ABS. Some of those studies were from the early 1990's, when people didn't know much about ABS.
And, at the end of the article when it says "At the very least, NHSTA should launch an immediate investigation into the advisability of fitting SUV’s with ABS." That's stupid. w/o abs, stability control can't exist, which prevents rollovers. (like Ford's Roll Stability Control)
Stupid people.....
