Apple and Volkswagen Working on iCar?
Allegedly the German automaker Volkswagen and American computer company Apple Inc. are working on a common project: "iCar," the German-language magazine Capital reports.

Experts say a car with Apple products would garner much interest, especially among younger buyers, Sueddeutsche.de reports.

A Volkswagen spokesperson confirmed that VW chief Martin Winterkorn met a few days ago with Apple Boss Steve job in California for discussions relating to the project. The discussions are said to be in the early stages.

According to the report, there are to be models for Western Europe along with sales in the growing markets of China, India and Russia. In developing countries this "iCar" will be offered for 6500 euro, Sueddeutsche.de reports.

Cool! People in America will for sure be lining up for these babies. lol. I cant see them doing much with that price bracket though as far as a car. Apple products are also expensive.

Haven't bought an Apple product lately, have you? Try them, you will be impressed.

Of course, no matter what you buy, you can always find a cheap imitation. But if you want a quality electronic device that actually works well, then Apple offers some of the best values in the market.

Based on the number of BMW and Lexus fanboys on this site, one wouldn't think that purchase price would be such a big hurdle anyway. Come on, you pay a significant premium for automotive quality, why wouldn't you invest in a more refined computer too?

I won't doubt that they are at least interested in working on something together. After all Jobs used to say iMac is the VW Beetle of personal computer.

But this ...

"According to the report, there are to be models for Western Europe along with sales in the growing markets of China, India and Russia. In developing countries this "iCar" will be offered for 6500 euro, Sueddeutsche.de reports."

I am pretty sure he just pull it out of his ass.

Apple And VW are two of my favorite companies (I have an Intel iMac and drive a leased A6 Quattro) but I am not in favour of excessive computerization of cars. My motto is KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

I have nothing against computerized management of drive train operation for optimum power use and fuel efficiency but I expect vast improvements in on-board comuterized diagnistics. Diagnostic codes should be displayed on the instrument panel so that the consumer can look up these codes and determine whether or not he should really take the car in for service. Some cars give false warnings and , in practice, you can drive thousands of miles before you really have to fix what the stupid warning light indicates is allegedly wrong with the car.
