Jeep Wrangler
Hummer H3 (5 cyl)
Jeep Liberty Sport
Chevy Aveo5
Dodge Nitro SLT
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Toyota Yaris
Suzuki Forenza
Jeep Patriot Limited
Chevy Trailblazer
Mercury Grand Marquis

Looking over this list we might agree with a few of them, but we also see a few they left off as well.

Since we know our readers are a notch above the others, we have to ask what are your 11 worst cars on the market today.

We know our list will probably be far more accurate.

The Yaris is a perfectly good car - the problem for Consumer Reports is that the base model doesn't have ABS.

The Yaris isn't a bad car. It's just as good as its direct competition, the Nissan Versa and Honda Fit, give or take a few driving dynamics.

I think leaving off like vehicles is fine, name one you are basically naming the whole line. So the Crown Marquis, Crown Vic and Lincoln Continental all fall in the same category. This list is bogus. Jeep Wrangler, worst car in America, HAHAHAHAHAHA!! It's such a niche car the tree snobs at CS can't appreciate it. And the FJ Cruiser's I see all the time on the roads around here. Dodge Nitro is the same thing as the Jeep Liberty, just w/o the 4WD system.

Well, here is my list of the top 11.

Mitsubishi Galant (low sales, unappealing to everyone)
Ford Crown Victoria (Marquis, Continental, etc.)
VW Jetta (last generation was better by far)
Honda Ridgeline (useless as an SUV and a truck)
Scion Xd (just a larger bulgier Xa, boring)
Nissan Sentra (a 2yr. old could make a better shape)
Suzuki Forenza (who owns one? seriously, who?)
Kia Rio (Bubbles the clown designed this thing)
Ford Ranger (it's tired, it's old, it has no sales)
Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 (Civic Si is cheaper and faster)
Saab 9-7X (Did GM really need to do this?)

are you serious? your reviews/justifications for your list of cars are almost completely subjective. your opinion of the nissan for instance is based on its shape. What? If we are going on looks, you might as well throw the entire scion line up there, as well as the Mini line. come on man.. normally you have reasonable posts, but this is just silly. I agree with this list 100 percent, and I would bet top dollar that the consumer reports guys know a little more about cars than you and I do.

Why would you put the VW Jetta on there just because the last-gen model was better? It's still better than any of its competition.

Also, FYI, the Honda Ridgeline won Motor Trend's Truck of the Year when it came out...

S4 the Jetta is overpriced and underperforms. The new one looks like a Coralla, the last gen looked good and had some true vdub style. People buy it because they want German Feel. Not a good choice overall. And this has nothing to do with Audi!!

I'm debating the Wrangler for my next off-road vehicle. The worst, not by far. I loathe C/R for it's idiotic mainstream bias. Yes, lets make the Wrangler handle like a car, who cares if it sucks off-road. this kind of attitude has led to real off-road vehicle being severally compromised in the back country. If the can't understand a vehicle DON'T TEST IT!

Whelan - I completely agree with you, the Honda Ridgeline is one of the best reviewed pieces of crap on the market. "Lets build a truck for people that hate trucks!" Bad news Honda people the hate trucks buy cars. If Honda had taking a second to realize that they've stopped making the El Caminos they would have bagged this worthless wonder.

I agree with the list, with the exception of the Wrangler. Maybe it is a POS, but it does the tasks it is designed to do very well. If I was a less practical person, I'd own one.

Basically all of the vehicles here would make great rental cars.

I just realized they are talking about the Wrangler Unlimited. I see no valid point to existence of this particular model. Now the 2 door, I think is a decent vehicle.

Obviously you don't spend much time off-road.

If you are gonna compromise something on a Jeep, it shouldn't be off-road capability. This is why the car based Jeeps are despised.

Perhaps if you lived in Sedona and had guests coming to town, this would be great. Where I live, I never see the tops down on the unlimited models. From my experience with Wranglers, it is probably a huge pain to deal with, unless you are gonna leave it off for a week or more. The two door's roof has to be far easier to deal with, it s cheaper, off-roads better only at the compromise of a little interior space.

The reason I prefer the 2 door is for off-roading. My past off-roader was a little 4x4 ext. Ranger (10.5x31x 15). The only real problem off-roading this was its length vs. ground clearance (same problem the unlimited faces, respecitvely). Good thing it had skid plates, as the chassis spent much time on the ground in Sedona. Never got stuck (in Sedona), it was just irritating to hear it scrape.

I've been off-road in all sorts of vehicles. Heck, I even went off-roading at the Rover museum in a defender (that was pretty fun, but orchestrated). I'd say that the Wrangler is the best value period.

I am not the most experienced off-roader, but I stand by what I said regarding the unlimited.

The valid reason for the existence of the Wrangler Unlimited - GEAR. I do spend a fair amount of time in the back country (Rockies and Colorado Plateau), for running support on biking trip, or shuttling for raft or bikes nothing beats a four door SUV. I have friends with both standard and Rubicon Wranglers, I am on my fifth Grand Cherokee (not the current generation-to compromised). While I admit the smaller Wrangler will fit in a few more tight space, it's amazing what a longer wheel base Jeep is capable of.

I do have a friend with the new Unlimited and I find it's capabilities to be about 95% of the shorter wheelbase and he can carry a full size cooler in the back.

I'll have to agree about the Suzuki Forenza. I was forced to live with a brand new example for a week as it was absolutely the last thing left on the rental car lot and a car I can only describe as a steaming pile of internal combustion. From the PLASTIC lugnuts, to the miserable acceleration, to the wind tunnel interior, I have never been more dissapointed in a car and I was not expecting much to begin with. Oh and the keyless entry chirp sounds like two raptors mating. I now have two cars on my do not rent to me under any circumstances list with Hertz: the PT Cruiser and the Suzuki Forenza. I am just traumatized.........

So how is it a bad car then if it is overpriced and undersized?

Well, it is also underpowered and unrefined. For the same price I can think of many other cars that are more appealing. If you added the Smart to the above list, what would be the last car that you would buy? My pick would be the Smart. Go test drive one, you'll see.

WillisWillis - 3/10/2008 10:52:47 PM

I don't think a prospective Smart buyer cares about power and refinement. They buy the car because of its small size which allows them to park in tight spaces. They also buy the car because it gets good fuel economy.

It gets mediocre fuel economy for it's size. I would expect 60 MPG at the least.

Wow. The H3 is a fantastic car. My family has two, one of which is mine. It's a great car, it's not that slow, and it has quite the on road presence.

You could do a lot worse than the FJ Cruiser. But for the most part, this list has SOME bad cars. I don't know if they're the worst, but they're definitely not anything to brag to the neighbors about.

Also, substitute the Compass in for the Patriot. They both suck, but the Compass is the hideous one.

Car magazine has given FJ Cruiser a full 5 star rating.
In a recent camparison test done here by CAR Middle East, it beat both Wrangler and H3. It's lighter therefore it beated H3 and scored same points as wrangler in offroading category, in cities they said there is no comparison as H3 and Wrangler are so harsh and uncomfortable driving on the roads ...etc. On other hand FJ drives like a noraml family SUV. They siad FJ interior is also better than the american duo.

FJ Cruiser is a very dedicated vehicle. It does it's job well which is offroading, youthful, fun...etc. It's also great value fo money and looks great too.

How can this be the worst.

and Toyota Yaris is also far from worst. It's a nice little economical hatch.

I think I could have fun with a Wrangler or FJ, which is why that list surprises me.

Off-roading seems very appealing. I just don't live in an area with anywhere to do it.
