Army builds new Hummer
The current M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee for short), the truck that spawned the Hummer H1, has been in use by the military for more than 20 years, but a successor could be just around the corner.
Earlier this month military officials issued a ‘Request for Proposals’ to suppliers, soliciting concepts for what it calls a new Joint Light Tactical family of Vehicles (JLTVs).
The new model will replace the Hummvee and will come with no less than 10 variations.

Yes, because we need them to fight the wars to get the oil.

Let's all pray that this monstrosity never makes it's way on to our highways and byways... YIKES!

that's the same thing I said when I signed for my first Humvee while in the Army.

It's designed with a very sharply angeled outer body for a reason (and it isn't looks). To deflect rocket and other gun fire. I'm sure the engineers are sorry for not adding any faux exhaust pipe endings like the ones found on some Lexus and Lamborghini models.. but this is a purely functional vehicle with every nut and bolt designed to give it maximum capability.. At least appreciate the intense engineering that goes into these things.

EL34, you and me both; moreover, I want the old ones sold to civilians as war surplus equipment to help pay for the new ones.

Sharp angles are also great for confusing radar traps is we can ever get these beautiful machines into the civilian market.

Is it strong enough to keep our troops safe from IEDs and mines. Cause right now the military is too cheap to invest in things like dragon skin vests and armoring more H1s.
Looks like what the Batmobile would have looked like if Dodge designed it (for the new batman that is)

All they need to do is stop using crapy GM running gear and start using some real truck part from international.

International made great military trucks during WW 2 - I hope they become a major supplier of military vehicles again in the future.

Yikes it's scary enough to scare the enemy.
I can imagine something like this well suited for civilian use.

I'm pretty sure the BAE's Pathfinder is already in service. They cost the US in the neighbourhood of a million each or something close.
This one does look better than the boxy ones I've seen (same v-hull design).
If the Bakken shales works out, N.America can let Europe/Russia/India and China fight over the middle east.

The French make an amphibious V-hull version of the Panhard VBL which is great for duck hunting and it's only $half million.
