I didnt know the Secretary of State had the ability to pass laws.....

Still, the more information available the better.

"Global warming score"? IT's A HOAX. Cars do not change the temperature of the Earth. This is a hoax.

I'm sure this sounds sexist but only a female leader would come out with such a rediculous law. She should wear one on her forhead to inform what impact her berps and farts have.

well im glad you know it sounds sexist. lol

as for the stickers...i guess its an "okay" idea, i dont see it impacting anyone. unless, those real environmentalist will hit you car as they cross the intersection seeing that low emmisions rating of your diesel.

A nice idea that comes off as an election ploy, somewhat.

@LKG12,

Trolling over '09 diesels with urea tech? Please. Let's see how Cali ranks them in respect to gas-electric hybrids first.

please take a look at fueleconomy.gov

the 2008 E320 bluetec has an airpollution score of 3 out of 10. just because it has urea doesnt mean that it wont have smog forming compounds

oh and the prius/ ls600h/ rx400h/ GS450h has an airpollution score of an 8.

all the data is already available at fueleconomy.gov, so not that much new here except a sticker

diesels get an air poluttion score of 6

and the greenhouse gas figure is wrong for diesels as you actually get 18%+ more mpgs than what the EPA quotes, which means you actually put out less c02 than advertized

Sounds like more energy will be used to create the stickers than the amount of engergy saved by people who actually read it. Can't this info just get added to the dealer sticker. MPG is already communicated.

No different than a Nutrition Facts label.

BTW, just because a car gets low MPG, doesnt mean its not "green". Emissions are the key here.

I could get 10 MPG and drive 100 miles /week
You get 20 MPG and drive 200 miles /week

10 gallons of fuel either way.

wasn't questioning mpg relationship.
It's a bogus sticker trying to make people do "the right thing".
Kill the cows, close the coal burning electric plants, put up some wind mills, a couple of nuclear plants and stop bitching about cars!

How about a law requiring carbon profiteers and hypocrites like Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nancy Pelosi, etc. to wear a label showing how many more tons of carbon they emit into the atmosphere every year than the average American, whose behavior they're so determined regulate.

chewy, lexuskindaguy
diesels also generally require more barrels of oil to be imported to make their fuel. Probably something the diesel makers wouldn't want the general public to be aware of as its counter to their goal of selling more vehicles because they're 'greener'.

Camry hybrid = 33/34/34mpg, 10.1 barrels and 5.4 CO2 score.
Jetta TDI = 30/40/34mpg, 11.6 barrels and 6.2 CO2 score.

Camry has 10 more cu.ft of interior volume and is 400lbs heavier than the Jetta.
I don't want to embarrase the Jetta but the Prius has nearly as much interior room as the Camry but way higher mpg figures.

The label is a good idea though, it may help to open peoples eyes as to which option is the truly green choice.
