The new Aston Martin DBS is about to see a welcomed upgrade in the transmission area with the addition of the Touchtronic 2 transmission. Before the offering of the Touchtronic 2, the new DSB was only offered with a manual six-speed transmission. The Touchtronic 2 is a six-speed transmission but in automatic form and derived from the ZF transaxle unit that was developed for the DB9.
The Final drive ratio in the TT2 is shortened from 3.15:1 to 3.46:1 which yields a better acceleration and “an improved performance feel.” More specifically with the TT2 transmission the DBS will blast to 60mph in just 4.3 seconds. Engaging the Touchtronic 2 mode is very easy for the driver , and all one has to do is pull on of the leather trimmed magnesium paddles mounted on either side on the steering wheel to engage the Touchtronic mode. Those wishing to let the transmission to the work for them like a traditional automatic can just leave it in drive mode.
