Audi A6 to get rear entertainment system
Audi will be unveiling an innovative entertainment system for rear-seat passengers in the A6L at the Shanghai Auto Show (20 – 27 April 2007). Two 10.2-inch monitors are fitted on the backs of the front seats. The DVD player integrated in the centre armrest also includes connections for a games console, iPod and digital camera. Together with the TV tuner, the system transforms the luxury-class saloon into a mobile film theatre. Sound can be relayed via either the on-board speakers or headphones.

Meh, not the best-integrated headrests I've ever seen. It for sure does not fulfill one's desire for the A8L W12.

10.2 inches is a much bigger screen than the typical in headrest ones. Plus this is a safer solution as it doesn't interfer with the headrest functions.

Aright, they're still unattractive. Why is it that I can admit it when Audi doesn't do a "perfect" job, but others cannot?

I am just saying that you can't put the 10.2 inch monitor in a space for a 7 inch monitor. I would gladly take a larger screen.

not good looking anyway. Plus, what if you hit your head into one of those displays? You know, in an accident or something. Very bad looking!

I'd be more worried that my head was hitting the seat...and I think I'd be wearing my seatbelt, so I wouldn't hit it anyway.

Whew...that thing is bulky! I think they should've integrated it into the ceiling. Anybody agree with that one?

I would roll in the back of that.

I wouldn't lust after an A8 if I could buy that car.

Are you joking? The current A6 came out in late 2004 as a 2005 model!

no I'm not joking, I don't follow Audi. I was hoping they'd do something with the uninspiring rear, heck even the A4's look better now. And they don't even follow that through on the cabrio!

The A4 was only refreshed in 2005. The A4 Cabriolet's refresh has recently come to market; it looks exactly like the sedan from the front. The ALL-NEW A4 will probably be unvieled at an auto show this year, and be available for sale next year.

Oh and BTW... about the A6's "uninspiring" rear: to each his own. Although I don't find the A6's performance particularly appealing, IMO it is a very elegant, contemporary sedan that stands out as a recent design masterpiece.

awesome about the A4, I just can't bring myself to fork out $50-60k on an A6 if I only like 3/4s of the car. Don't get me wrong, the rear isn't overly offensive, it's just that the rest of the car is so nice, once I see the back I feel let down a bit.

Well it looks better than the headrest screens in the 5er.

Those are some pretty big screens, which is a common complaint I hear at aftermarket automotive customizers.
I still constantly wonder what's the appeal of long wheelbase versions of mid-size cars. Isn't a roomier cabin the whole point of the full-size sedan? I saw a long wheelbase Chrysler 300 at a dealership the other day and I understood the reason for that one in particular. Chrysler doesn't have a full-size flagship. But in my opinion, these long wheelbase mid-sizes take away the from the full-sizes.

It's only sold in China, where the A6 is super-popular, and they eat up every variant. BMW has followed Audi's lead with a long-wheelbase 5 Series there, too.

Well, I wonder why you took the time to click on an article you "don't care" about, and promote your "not caring" in a post that you wrote in it? Insecure?
