Audi Announces Record Sales For January
Audi of America, Inc. announced today that its record-setting sales pace continues.  Sales for the month of January totaled 6,418 vehicles, an increase of 0.3% from last year’s figures.

“We look forward to the continued momentum with the Audi brand in the United States in 2008,” said Johan de Nysschen, Executive Vice President, Audi of America.

Audi Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) sales are also continuing their record-setting trend.   Compared with last year’s January figures, CPO sales came to 2,592 units, an increase of 39.4%.

To be frank, these number should be a lot better. Only one line of cars sold over a thousand, the A4. Audi NA has done a terrible job of winning over the American consumer. Audi NA needs a major shake and to dump the ad agency.

A spectacular car like the A6 not selling more than a 1000 cars in a month is just pathetic.

The Q7 also sold over a 1000 cars, and the A6 was not far off. Also, concidering Audi thought their sales would go down this year, this is very good news.

Do to economic conditions here in the US and the pounding the US dollar is experiencing in the world market, these sales numbers are just where Audi wants them to be. They sold more cars than last year which was already a record year to begin with, but under way more demanding conditions and less use of incentives.

The US only represents about 10% of sales for Audi worldwide. It costs them considerably more money to sell over here than anywhere else in the world. Why bring even more product to a market that they can't make money in at the moment? Slow steady growth is the mantra right now.

The US represents between 20-30% of BMW and MB sales worldwide and thus makes this country much more important to maintain volume levels. Make no mistake, it's costing each of them a fortune to do business here even though there is some offset with each of them having factories which export from the US back to Europe. Audi is considering building a plant in the US for the very same reason but if the dollar goes back to normal, that prospect will die a quick death. With a change in administration in the US government right around the corner even that idea is a wait and see proposition. Don't look for any major changes in sales figures for the Audi brand until MY2009 when the Q5 and all new A4 come on board with a full year of sales.

Generally, auto sales in January are the lowest in terms of volume. Right now the A4 is transitioning out with the new model coming (this will increase sales substantially). I have always felt that Audi needs to support the A6 and the A8 much more aggressively than they do. Both great cars that should be off the carts.

I think Audi is doing a good job penetrating the market, especially for a company that had struggled in the 80s/90s with reliability issues. I think that reliability issues are one of the hardest to overcome, and they are doing a good job overcoming those problems.

Good Job AUDI...

Audi sales are pathetic considering all the hype. There are alot of new stand alone Audi dealerships and many new models and sales barely moving along. I think Audi only outsells Jaguar! And Jaguar is practically dead. Audi makes great cars with weak engines compared to the competition. The A6 needs a V8 to run with a BMW, Lexus or Mercedes 6 cylinder. Audi needs to lose weight by 5% and devolop new engines.

That's just great. Now you'll never see an Audi with 300hp for under $50k
