Audi Bringing Diesel Q7 SUV to U.S. Shores in 2008
240 hp of output and 406 lb/ft of torque – the latest version of the incredibly powerful 3.0 TDI six-cylinder engine is now available in the Audi Q7.

The ultra-modern compression-ignition engine with Common Rail fuel injection system and piezo injectors impresses not only with its sheer power, but also, and even more so, with its remarkable efficiency.

On average, the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI requires a mere 9.8 liters of diesel for every 100 kilometers traveled. This means that the new version needs 0.7 liters less than its predecessor, despite the significant increase in power output and torque.

Under the hood of the new Audi Q7 3.0 TDI is the very latest series production diesel engine the brand has to offer. The latest generation of the V6 celebrated its debut in the A5 Coupé and recently also became available in the new A4 saloon. It produces a peak torque of 406 lb.-ft., more than 90% of which is available across a broad speed range from 1,500 to 3,250 rpm. The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI accelerates from standstill to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds. The six-cylinder engine is able to fully exploit its superb pulling power at any speed.

The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI transmits its power through a six-speed tiptronic gearbox and a sportily configured quattro drive train. In normal operation, this transmits 40 percent of the drive force to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear wheels. In addition to steel springs, the optional pneumatic adaptive air suspension is also available – this marries dynamic handling with the ride comfort of the luxury class.

The beefed up bestseller in the Audi Q7 range, the 3.0 TDI, accounts for more than 80 percent of all Audi Q7 vehicles sold in Germany.

Wow! For a car that big, and that fuel efficient, 0-60 in 8.5 seconds is incredible! I can't imagine how good the A4 and A5 3.0TDI models will be...

Actually 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds will be less for the 0-60mph dash.

Ah, I didn't catch that, thanks.

...If they could fit this motor into the VW Jetta we could have the beginnings of a new "GTD" on our hands.

Just wait until the 500 h.p. Q7 V12 TDI arrives. It will be the most desirable vehicle on the planet.

More power and more fuel efficiency. Diesel development is so fast now.

Not one mention of emissions.

The RXh uses 7.8/8.4L/100km and is faster (7sec). Granted it can only tow 3500lbs, but Q7 buyers won't be pulling any more either (even if they can).

Heck, the GX 4.7L V8 uses 15.4/11.4L (approx 30% worse, but diesel takes 30% more oil too, so zero sum gain). The GX is also faster, not that it matters to normal people.

If I wanted a small, mediocre handling, and ugly styling SUV than ... maybe you are right, an RXh would do. Unfortunately I have taste, so I'd rather al arger, sportier, roomier, better looking Q7.

Save your statistics for someone who cares. If this is a forum where people write stupid comments like yours with the intent of flaming others then I can gladly reply. Peoples' preferences are not changed just because of your comments. If you like the RXh, good for you, buy it, enjoy it. I much prefer the Q7 despite of your comments.

Why can't people in this forum get that already. Different people have have different preferences. They should be respected. What is 'best' for some, may be 'trash' by others. COMPRENDE?

You took the words out of my mouth, MeanVulcan.

huu, nothing you say is going to change what I think about the Q7, or the RX400h.

I'll admit though, the V6 diesel is a good fit for SUVs. The V12 is simply retarded.

Last official info from AoA was that the diesels were being delayed until 2009. I was hoping to end my FX lease next year and move into a Q7 (perhaps a diesel). I'll still plan for it in case they do decide to bring them in 2008.

"underperforms compared to competition"

It's quicker and more fuel efficient than the X5 3.0d and GL320 CDI.

"no desireability"

It's a huge worldwide seller for Audi.

"slab sided"

It has gotten rave reviews for how "gorgeous" it is, especially from C/D.

"built off a FWD chassis (as are all Audis)"

It's not, actually. The Cayenne/Touareg/Q7 platform is purely AWD. Also, the R8 is definitely not built off of a FWD chassis. As for the rest of their models- about 70% of them are sold AWD, and the new MLPs drive like RWD cars.

Meanvulcan,
Buy a Volvo 18-wheeler then. Those diesels are pretty big and you can sleep in one too.

Good for Audi for making a hybrid Q7. We'll see whether the diesel or hybrid sells better in 2009.
